A New Decade – Another Exciting Year
2010 Membership Renewal/Application

Welcome to Another Exciting Year at Dragons Club.  The last two years have been quite busy for all our volunteers – Committee, Coaches and Managers.  Whilst we still have some vision 20eleven strategies to pursue, your Committee has been able to accomplish some quite significant strategies in refocusing the Club during 2009.  There are still more strategies we will be striving to implement over the remaining 2 years of our vision 20eleven strategic plan.  That’s what makes 2010 another exciting year.

2009 saw us deliver another two terms of our unique B.L.A.S.T. ™ 6eleven skills program that introduced over 60 new younger players to the game, a number of whom continued on to play in teams at BBI.  To our knowledge, Dragons is the only Club in the Brisbane area delivering its own in house developed skills program in the fashion we do. We also fielded a senior women’s GBL team in the Recreational Season under the guidance of coach, Dwayne Vigilance, and hosted two visiting Canadian women’s teams.  As a result, we are now a reference point to host future visiting teams.

For 2010:

•  Sign On Day is 30^th January at the PCYC from 10:00 till 2:00. You will need to apply for or renew your Dragons membership and complete or endorse your PCYC membership form.  As we are capturing some new data, we would appreciate all members, new and renewing, completing an online registration form before Sign On Day.  This will also help us to streamline the Sign On Day process. • Playing Season commences Friday 12^th and Saturday 13^th February.
   
• Training commences the week of Monday 1^st February.
   
• B.L.A.S.T.™ 6eleven Term 1 commences Saturday 6^th February.
   
• Merchandising of Club shorts and shirts will be available on Sign On day for $25 each.  All merchandising is payable by cash or cheque.
   
• Dragons Membership Fees and Fund Raising Levy have been kept at 2009 levels.
   
• PCYC Membership Fees have increased slightly on last year to $20 for Juniors, $30 for over 18’s and $60 for Families, the first increase in a number of years.  All Dragons and PCYC fees are payable to the PCYC by cash, cheque or EFTPOS.
   
• BBI Registration has increased for 2010 and must be paid BEFORE ANY games are played.  This is a change from past policy. BBI Registration fees are detailed on their website. BBI are holding their own Sign On Days on Friday January 29, Sunday January 31 and Friday February 5.
   
• Training Fees must be paid to the PCYC BEFORE each weekly training session.  Coaches will be asked to confirm payment and players who have not paid will not be able to train at that session.
   
• Under 8 Team basketball comes to Dragons for the first time in a some years.  We expect to nominate an U8 mixed team for the Championship Season.
   
• Coaches and Training Times are still being settled and will be progressively announced leading up to Sign On Day.  Check our website for particulars.  Final training times for weeks 1 and 2 will be available by Sign On Day.
   
• Coaching Positions are available across various age groups and both genders. If you have basketball experience as a player or coach, please consider applying to coach a team.  This is an ideal opportunity to develop a shared interest with your child.  Older Age and Senior Players are also encouraged to volunteer as a coach, assistant coach or new joint coach to meet our coaching needs and pass on their skills to younger Dragons' members.  Players who coach get Dragons and PCYC membership and training concessions.
   
• Committee Positions are also available for your contribution especially Secretary.  Our AGM will be held in March/April and we would like to establish our 2010 nominees for positions before that date. Your contribution would be appreciated.  This is an ideal way for you to get involved with a great group of committed members looking to develop our Club further.

On 2009 Trophy Day, I flagged a need to wind back my activities with the Club to refocus on my business and personal interests.  Jan West has also indicated she needs to do the same.  Over the last 2 years, Jan and I have coached some 13 teams between us in addition to our Committee and B.L.A.S.T.™ 6eleven roles.  This winding back of activities by Jan and me along with some coaches taking a break in 2010 has created a need for additional coaches from our membership base, both parents and older aged and senior players.  Please consider this opportunity.

Please note, Dragons and PCYC registration are not finalised until all forms are completed and fees paid.  Due to public liability and insurance issues, coaches will be requested to verify registrations this year before players commence training.

For 2010, all players in the same age and gender group will train together for the first two weeks to allow us to do our own internal grading for various divisions.  Team allocations and new training times will be confirmed by the end of week 2.  Coaches may make changes to their teams throughout the grading season leading to our Championship Season registrations.
