Vale Troy Mackinder
I am sorry to share with the Dragons community the recent passing of one of our coaches, Troy Mackinder. Troy was heavily involved with the Girls Junior program including coaching an u13 girls team last season, taking an u11 girls team to the Club Championship tournament last year and also running the junior girls Summer season scrimmages. He continued to help a number of coaches this year when ill health meant he couldn’t coach full-time. Even if you didn’t formally meet Troy, you are likely to have seen him at Auchenflower. He was larger than life and renowned for his coaching outfit which included a blue wig and fancy yellow tie: Dragons colours.
To acknowledge Troy’s contribution to the club, we invite players, coaches, managers and others to wear an arm band at this Friday and Saturday’s fixtures. Black would not be in keeping with Troy’s approach to basketball and to life so a number of people have suggested bright yellow. So there will be a number of people with yellow tape on Saturday in the canteen area at BBI and I encourage you to participate as a mark of respect for Troy. On Friday Night the coaches will have Yellow Tape which can be used also.
In keeping with Troy’s commitment to the club, his farewell memorial will be held at:
Walkabout Creek: 60 Mount Nebo Rd, The Gap, Brisbane. This will be at 10:30am Friday 22nd July 2016. All are Welcome.
