Dragons GBL Women play (and win) their first game

It’s been on our agenda since our strategic planning meeting in October, 2008 and around 8 months in the planning.  On Wednesday October 14, Dragons' GBL women’s team took to the court in their first game under coach Dwayne Vigilance and in Dragons' colours and completed the evening with a comfortable win over Uni Reds 50 to 43.

Beginning with a nervous start and letting their opposition get away to a small lead, our ladies looked a lot more comfortable after scoring their first points and beginning to exert defensive pressure on their rivals. Despite having a shallow bench with players missing because of injury and study commitments, our ladies perservered against a physical opposition on the back of some quick rotations and strategic time outs.

Fielding a Women’s GBL team in this season’s competition has allowed North Brisbane Basketball Assn to meet one of its vision 20eleven strategies around 6 months ahead of schedule.  Congratulations to Dwayne and our ladies on their efforts to reestablish Dragon’s senior women’s program.

Our ladies match up against Lang Park in their next game at 8:15 on October 21.
