Quake Men's Fairytale Is Over

In what turned out to be a very exciting match the Quake Men’s team run in the Semi-Final series is over, just one game before the grand Final. In front of a huge crowd at the Morris Iemma Centre, the Simon Keith coached side went within a whisker of upsetting the premiers and booking themselves a place in Friday’s decider.

Once again relying heavily on the ‘Young Brigade”, things did not start well for Quake when in the 4th minute, Shervin Adeli put the Rovers ahead. Tim Mascarello doubled their lead when he found himself unmarked in the D.

From here, Quake lifted their intensity and Mark Symington, running off Danny Martinez at target, drilled one past keeper Joe Fotti to make it 2-1 for Enfield.   Poor marking on the left saw Pat Pace score just before the break, sending both teams to their respective coaches at 3-1 to Rovers.

Quake came back determined and in the first minute, Danny Martinez found the roof of the net and it was game on again. However, Rovers showed their experience and why they are the Premiers and converted from 2 free kicks to send them to a 5-2 lead.

Quake was not done and showed their fighting spirit. Coach Keith went to a 5th man formation with Gary Seymour wearing the keeper’s shirt and it paid dividends. Mark Symington scored twice to complete his hat trick which set the game up for a grandstand finish (5-4 to Rovers)

With some 8 minutes left and Rovers leading 5-4, Quake bombarded the Rovers goal but were unable to penetrate their defence. Corner after corner, Quake had some chances but the Premiers held strong and will now play Dural in the decider.

Enfield 5 (Adeli, Mascarello 2, Dimento, Pace)

Quake 4 (Symington 3, Martinez)

Quake: Shane Borg, Shane Ardle, Ian McAndrew, Danny Martinez, Mark Symington, Andrew Haim, Harley Da Silva, Bruno Antelmi, Dean Lockhart, Jake McGing, Nathan Clissold, Gary Seymour

Enfield: J Fotti, S Adeli, J Dimento, L Wright, T Mascarello, T Simpson, P Pace, N Frajossi, I Keyim.

Whist disappointed, the Quake boys should be proud of their efforts, coming very close to yet another grand final appearance.
