Quake Vs Boomerangs

Quake Futsal Report

Vs Boomerangs FS

Saturday 28th January

On the final day of the home-and-away series, Quake acquitted themselves very well by “ticking all the boxes” and winning 6 of the 9 games disputed. Quake has also achieved a Club Record by qualifying 7 of the 9 teams for the semi finals which begin Saturday 4th February. This is a huge achievement for the “family” Club as the 7 teams is the most of any Club along with Club Champions Inner West Allstars. These are the stats:

  1. Inner West Allstars 7 teams in semis
  2. Quake 7
  3. Enfield Rovers 6
  4. Dural Warriors 5
  5. Mascot Vipers 4
  6. Sydney City 4
  7. Boomerangs 2
  8. Taipans 1

The matches on the day were as follows:

12 boys– Quake 2 (Cooper De Sousa, Harlan Sparkes) – Boomerangs 6

It has been a very steep learning curve for the youngest of our boys’ team. They started strong but in the end could not match it with their opposition. Although they only achieved the one win for the season, we know the hard work and harder knocks will set them up for the future.

12 girls – Quake 5 (Savannah Seixas 3, Hannah Davey, Chloey Gray) – Boomerangs 0

A good ending to the home and away season, with a convincing win just prior to the semis. An outstanding game by Savannah Seixas who scored a hat trick and performed several other ‘tricks’. On Saturday they meet Dural in the Elimination semi, so well done girls and good luck.

14 boys – Quake 1 (Anthony Haddad) – Boomerangs 5

Not the preparation the number 2 ranked team were looking for just before the semis. However, we can say they got their bad game out of the way, ready for the qualifying semi against Allstars. Our boys just never got going, with the loss not really impacting on their position on the ladder. Good luck boys!

14 girls – Quake 4 (Ruby Mosca 2, Ashlee Norman, Lauren Featherstone) – Boomerangs 3

Our girls have once again shown their class and fighting spirit. After a slow start, they found themselves down 1-3 at the break. However, the second half belonged to Quake with 3 unanswered goals to take all points and second spot on the ladder. They now set themselves up for a showdown with Allstars in a qualifying semi.

16 boys – Quake 5 (Bruno Antelmi 2, Sebastian Malfara 2, Shannon Fielding) – Boomerangs 2

Not only did they have to win but they had to score plenty, as Enfield Rovers were ready to pounce on the Premiership. Equal on competition points and +8 goals difference, we learned Rovers had won by 9 goals, meaning Quake needed a gap of 2 goals or better to win. After dominating early, the goals dried up and in the end, the 3 goal win meant the Premiership for the Quake boys. This is an outstanding achievement for an extremely talented bunch of boys, all willing to work hard for results. Well done to coaches Danny and Symo, to the ever-reliable Tony Irwin (Manager), and all 12 boys (including Conor) who have contributed towards their achievements. Congrats! They now meet Enfield in the Qualifying semi, winner to the Grand Final!

16 girls – Quake 1 (Chrystal Duggan) – Boomerangs 2

What a season this team has had! With only 6 players in its squad, they relied heavily on the talented 14 girls. They fought all the way and can be proud of their results. Although they will not be playing semis, we know we will have a really good team next year with very high expectations.

Youth Men – Quake 4 (Jake McGing 2, Matt Trotter, Josh Curtain) – Boomerangs 2

No one has ever questioned the talent in this squad. And tonight, we saw the fighting spirit which had been lacking in recent weeks, just in time for the big matches. Down 2-1 at the break, we saw a determined and fired up Quake take the game to Boomerangs. With 3 goals in 3 minutes, the ‘Quake of old’ took the points and second spot, setting up a showdown with Premiers Dural in the Qualifying semi.

Women – Quake 14 (Claire Walsh 3, Laura Donelly 4, Zoeie Redman 3, Stephanie Haim 2, Leesa Thomson, Sharon Walsh) – Boomerangs 3

This was a good performance from a team that 2 weeks ago looked like missing a semi spot. Instead, they won, scored plenty and secured 3rd spot, ready for Dural in the elimination final. The win will do plenty for their confidence, particularly their finishing in front of goal. Good luck girls!

Men – Quake 5 (Mark Symington 2, Shane Ardle 2, Danny Martinez) – Boomerangs 3

With everything on the line, the winner of this match was assured of 4th spot and a crack at the finals. Conceding early has been a real issue for Quake and when Daniel Fulton scored early (5th minute), we knew the pressure was on. It took a further 17 minutes before Quake could find the equaliser, only to surrender the lead just a minute later. Just before the break, 2 tremendous plays by Mark Symington returned the lead to Campbelltown to add to the drama. Boomerangs were first to score in the second half, setting up a huge final 20 minutes. It was Shane Ardle first who restored the lead for Quake, before Symington set up Danny Martinez for what was to be the sealer. In the end, 4th spot to Quake in a great campaign, aided by 5 or 6 of our Youth and 16 boys. The semi against Sydney City promises to be a great game, and what ever the result: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
