Quake Take Honours Against Eagles

Quake consolidated its 4th place position in the Club Championship standings when we were able to take away another 15 valuable points from our visit to Eagles just before the Xmas break. Our 5 wins help us extend our lead over Phoenix. Being 4th on the ladder you would think we would have more teams firmly entrenched in the top 4 but inconsistency is costing many of our squads the opportunity to secure a finals berth.

Brief reports follow:

Academy: Proudly Sponsored by Xtreme Locksmiths

The boys really struggled against this group last time around but this time they bossed most of the game only to concede some sloppy goals. This was a very tight affair in the end and I know the lads were not happy with how they finished the game. Still, they improve each week and we will have plenty of boys ready for Premier League in the 12 Boys next year.

12 Boys: Proudly Sponsored by 40 Winks Campbelltown: Quake 3 (Adrian Neoklis, Andrew Head, Daniel Wilmering) def by Eagles 4

Oh, so close. This is a game the boys should have won after fighting back 3 times but the mistakes they were making earlier in the year crept back into their game and 4 really poor goals cost them. You can’t fault these boys ability and fighting spirit and the improvement from their first game is remarkable. They now sit 6th on the ladder 4 points from 4th with an outside chance of making the finals.

12 Girls: Proudly Sponsored by JR Electrical: Quake 9 (Vesna Milivojevic 3, Rosie Galea 3, Ebony McCue-Shore, Emily North, Brooke Pepper) def Eagles 1

We knew that when these girls put it all together and took their chances that someone was going to cop it. The poor Eagles girls had no answer after taking a shock lead. The girls played fantastic team futsal with each girl contributing to a fine display. Well done Jess Gallazo who took the opportunity of extra minutes to play her best game of the year and a big shout out to Brooke who got the goal she has worked so hard for. The girls are 5th on the ladder 5 points behind 4th and are a slight mathematical chance to qualify for the semis.

14 Boys: Proudly Sponsored by Capital Steel Buildings Southwest: Quake 2 (Anthony Haddad, Luke Carbone) def by Eagles 4

The boys just didn’t show the hunger and intensity needed to beat their arch rivals and the Eagles lads didn’t miss the opportunity to take the honours. All the lads seemed out of sorts and lacked concentration at both ends of the court when it was needed. They are now 4th on the table 1 point clear of 5th and have their destiny in their own hands.

14 Girls: Proudly Sponsored by Clintons Toyota: Quake 3 (Mia Connors 2, Hannah Davey) def Eagles 1

Another pleasing performance by the girls. Mia Connors continues to come on in leaps and bounds and was clearly the dominant player on the court and helped herself to 2 goals. The girls are 5th on the ladder 6 points out of the finals berths and would need a lot to go their way to make the semis but if they continue to improve they may get the luck they need.

16 Boys: Proudly Sponsored by Einhell Australia: Quake 2 (Marko Filipovic, OG) def by Eagles 2

Another below par performance by this talented squad. Something is not quite right but this team is too good to miss the semis. They will need to come back firing on all cylinders after the break to secure a finals spot. They are now 5th on the ladder 1 point off the Top 4.

16 Girls: Proudly Sponsored by Macarthur Marble & Granite: Quake 9 (Ruby Mosca 3, Logan Garard 2, Jemma Walsh, Elise Sherry, Chrystal Duggan, OG) def by Eagles 0

Much like the 12 Girls, someone was going to be in trouble when this very talented group finally put it together. Playing a fast paced, free flowing game that the Eagles had no answer for the girls were scoring for fun – and fun was the key word as the girls looked relaxed and appeared to be enjoying themselves for the first time in a long while. They now sit 7th on the ladder 5 points out of the top 4. A big job to make the semis but not impossible and if they play like they did in this game then watch out!

Youth Proudly Sponsored by A.H. Beard: Quake 2 (Bruno Antelmi, Nathan Scicchitano) def Eagles 1

The boys fell behind in the first half but never gave up and left it until the last 30 seconds to score the winner. How sweet it was when Shicca set up Bruno who stayed composed and slotted the winner under the ‘keeper. Andy Haim was again outstanding but he was one of many who worked hard for the result. The lads are now 6th on ladder but only 1 point out of the Top 4. They can make the semis if they keep playing like this.

Women: Proudly Sponsored by Bella Arts Graphic Design: Quake 1 (Zoeie Redman) def by Eagles 4

With players unavailable due to injuries, work commitments and holidays the girls were down to a bare starting 5 with Jimmy having to sit 4 of the 16 Girls on the bench. And the ladies were simply fantastic going into the break 1-0 up. But it was too much to ask Zoeie, Claire and Lauren to play the full 50 minutes in stifling conditions and the Eagles stayed patient and slotted 4 in the 2nd half. Really, the score line wasn’t a true reflection of how well the girls played. They are now 3rd on the ladder and clear of 4th place by 5 points and are still on track to make the finals.

Men: Proudly Sponsored by United Tools Liverpool: Quake 9 def Eagles 2

We can’t give you all the scorers as they weren’t recorded on the sheet correctly but we do know Harley got 3 and Bully got 2. The lads carried their good form from the previous week into this game and controlled the game from the outset. They quickly realised high and hard was the place to shoot and they didn’t miss many after that. They are now in 5th place on the ladder just 1 point behind Boomerangs who do have a game in hand – but it’s against Dural. Can they win 3 more and make it?
