Quake Takes Honours Against Eagles

Quake took on traditional foes Sydney City Eagles yesterday at Dural and managed 3 wins, 4 draws and suffered only 1 loss earning another 13 valuable Club Championship points. Another good day for the club but we again let winning positions slip and dropped points that we could have taken. Here are brief match reports.

Playing bigger opponents the boys had their work cut out for them but competed well. Eagles dominated the game but our boys did manage to find the back of the net several times playing some nice futsal. The fact that every club we have played so far has not fielded a 'keeper and played older boys in goals has also put the boys at a disadvantage in not being able to convert chances. Great effort each week from these lads.

12 Boys - Proudly Sponsored By 40 Winks Campbelltown: Quake 4 (Jayden Barna, Steven Mai, Adrian Neoklis, Youssef Sawalha goals) defeated by Eagles 7

The lads were down and out at the half trailing 0-5 and it looked like the score could be anything. But whatever Brett said during the break worked as they came roaring back into the contest to make it 3-5 and putting Eagles under the pump. In the end it was too big a lead to claw back but the boys gave it everything they had. Still plenty of time left in the season. Don't write these boys off yet.

12 Girls- Proudly Sponsored By JR Electrical: Quake 5 (Rosie Galea 4, Emily North 1) defeated Eagles 0

The second win in a row for the girls and they were good value for it. They scored 5 but missed too many to count so training will be focussed on finishing this week. The pleasing aspect was the first clean sheet of the season with Eagles never threatening to score. Everyone played well and they are all improving and trying something new each week.

14 Boys - Proudly Sponsored By Consolidated Steel Buildings Southwest: Quake 6 (Dalibor Malesevic 2, Khit Khet, Anthony Haddad, Liam McGing, Lachlan Paradjik) defeated Eagles 1

A dominant display by the boys. Now that Jimmy has a full squad at his disposal the boys are showing the form we expected and are now not giving their opponents any chance to get back into games. Very pleasing to watch. This team has terrific individual talent but they play very good team futsal. More of the same from now on boys please.

14 Girls- Proudly Sponsored By 4Clintons Toyota: Quake 2 (Ash Norman, Tyler Garard) drew with Eagles 2

Bittersweet sums this result up. The girls weren't as dominant as last week but still had control of the game for the most part. But if you don't take your chances then you are asking for trouble and that's what happened in this game. Two valuable points dropped but with 1 win, 2 draws and just the 1 loss the girls are doing very well and will learn from this experience.

16 Boys - Proudly Sponsored By Einhell Australia: Quake 2 (Marko Filipovic 2) drew with Eagles 2

Perhaps we should just copy and paste the report from the 14 Girls here as the 16 Boys also threw away 2 points. Missing Ben and Matty the lads were still good enough to take the win but another bad turnover and poor finishing let Eagles stay in the game when they should have been out of the contest. Two well taking goals from Marko were the highlights.

16 Girls - Proudly Sponsored By Macarthur Marble & Granite: Quake 5 (Logan Garard 2, Laura Murtagh 2, Elise Sherry 1) defeated Eagles 1

The girls went down a goal early and responded emphatically by scoring 5 unanswered goals over the remainder of the contest. They stayed calm, played patient futsal and pounced when the chance presented itself. This performance was much more like what we expected from this group and it looks like they are now starting to find their form. Great effort girls.

Youth - Proudly Sponsored By A.H. Beard: Quake 2 (Bruno Antelmi, Braeden Robins) drew with Eagles 2

Futsal can be a cruel game. After dominating the game the lads got out to a deserved 2 goal lead and looked odds on to score the 3rd and finish the game off before a turnover, caused by a slippery court, resulted in an Eagles goal that got them back into the match. From that point on it was all hands to the pump as Quake worked to preserve their lead but unfortunately Eagles got the equaliser with 2 minutes left and then almost stole all 3 points except for a last second save by Andy Haim. An improved performance that deserved better. With 3 draws and just the 1 loss and plenty of improvement to come the boys are not out of it yet.

Women - Proudly Sponsored By Bell Arts Graphic Design: Quake 2 (OG, Steph Haim) drew with Eagles 2

Will these 2 teams play anything but nail biters? Quake held a slim 1 goal advantage for most of the 2nd half and looked like they were going to hold on but a fast break goal made the score level. This was a very entertaining, fast paced, hard fought game and the girls can take some comfort that they looked the likely winners for much of the game. That's 3 wins and a draw for the girls and they still lead the way in the comp.
