Quake Underperforms Against Club Championship Leaders

On a day we'd all rather forget Quake managed only 1 win against Inner West Allstars and suffered defeat in the other 8 matches played.

A brief summary of the day follows:

12 Boys - Quake 1 def by Allstars 5

Another improved performance, particularly in attack.  All five Allstars goals were scored by 1 player and our boys had difficulty shutting him down. The way they are improving gives the boys a chance to win their last 2 games and they should be focussing on doing just that.

12 Girls - Quake 2 def by Allstars 5

What a great performance by these girls.  Playing the undefeated leaders they really gave it their all and fought to the end scoring 2 fine goals in the 2nd half.  And they're still in 4th place and have a great shot of cementing a well deserved semi-final spot if they keep playing the way they are.  Congratulations to Leesa and all the girls for their performances to date.

14 Boys - Quake 2 def by Allstars 4

Allstars had won 11 from 11 before Saturday but it looked like they were going to suffer their first defeat of the year with a dominant display by our boys in the first half. Quake lead 2-0 at the half but took their foot of Allstars throat and the leage leaders came roaring back. In the end a disappointing result but the boys know they can beat this team and they still hold down 2nd spot on the ladder.

14 Girls - Quake 2 def by Allstars 3

When you're hot you're hot.  And when you're not..........Quake got the win in the first round against league leaders Allstars and were on track to repeat the performance but switched off and were pipped at the post.  Unfortunatley there was no last gasp equaliser this week and the girls suffered a disappointing loss.  This team has so much ability but haven't yet played to their potential.  Still, they are in 2nd place on the ladder and know they can beat this team so are a strong chance come semi-final time.

16 Boys - Quake 7 def Allstars 3

Our only win of the day and a very clinical display it was by our boys.  Having suffered back-to-back defeats the boys roared back into form with good performances from every member of the squad.  Another hat trick to Bruno Antelmi, 2 crackers to Seba Malfara, a well deserved tap in from Shaun Irwin and a sneaky back post cross come goal to Anson Gilligan saw Quake rack up 7 against a strong opponent.  The boys still lead the way at the top of the ladder and are still looking good to take out the title.

16 Girls - Quake 0 def by Allstars 2

Our girls were able to hold Allstars to a draw the last time they met but weren't so lucky this time.  The effort was there but the finishing not.  Still, a remarkable effort by this team with our 14 Girls backing up every week.  This drops the girls out of the top 4 but they still have a chance to make the semis with some luck.

Youth - Quake 1 def by Allstars 2

The Cardiac Kids' luck ran out this week.  Instead of snatching victory in the last minutes they let this one slip away.  Costly errors in the back court saw them give away 2 late goals.  Credit to Andrew Haim who had an exceptionally strong game in goals.  The boys are now 3rd on the table and should still make the semis but have 2 tough games ahead of them when they resume from the break.

Women - Quake 1 def by Allstars 4

Not much good news to come out of this game apart from 15 year old Dana Buttigieg stepping into goals in the second half and aquitting herself well.  This loss makes it hard for the girls to make it into the semis needing 2 wins and results to go their way.  The effort's still there so we'll keep our fingers crossed that the girl's luck changes in the new year.  And if you make the semis you never know what will happen, do you?

Men - Quake 2 def by Allstars 3

Another one that got away!  Quake looked set for a well deserved win but lapses in concentration saw Allstars score 2 late goals to steal the points.  The team hasn't been able to settle on combinations but has had the opportunity to blood several 16 & 17 year olds. So, things are looking good for the future.  But this year isn't over yet and with 2 wins and a little help from our old foes Eagles and competition leaders Rovers the Men can still make the semis.  And I for one wouldn't want to be playing this team in the semis if they put it all together.
