Quake Report vs Mascot Vipers

Quake hosted Mascot Vipers and for the third consecutive Round, won the day. This time the results were a lot closer and Quake managed to win 5 games from the 9 contested.

The results were as follows:

12 boys – Quake 1 (Harlan Sparkes) – Mascot 8

Whilst the score looks once again unfavourably against Quake, this was a significant improvement on previous performances. A lot more emphasis is being placed on the basics and whilst it may take a little time, we will no doubt see it.

12 girls – Quake 1 (Hannah Davey) – Mascot 6

This was a game won by the better team. Physically bigger, the Vipers were a little more “Futsal aware” as a result of their experience. Once our girls (many of them in their first Futsal season) get more used to our sport, we will no doubt discover some stars.

14 boys – Quake 7 (Yasser Al Taay 4, Liam McGing, Lachlan Roberts, Anthony Haddad) – Mascot 6

This was a dramatic match. Quake was incredibly slow starting the game and before the clock had run 4 minutes we were 2-0 down. However, composure soon took over and we managed to go to the break 3-all. With goals to Lachlan and Liam to take us to 5-3, we thought the game was won. However, Vipers had other ideas and soon equalised. Drama unfolded late in the game with a Vipers send off and a late Quake 10 meter penalty which man-of-the-match hero Yasser Al-Taay converted for a 7-6 win which keeps this team undefeated and top of the league table.

14 girls – Quake 2 (Chrystal Duggan, Indianna Nelson) – Mascot 0

In a low scoring match, Quake never looked in doubt. Former Quake GK Melati Abdullah kept the Vipers in the game with her performance in goals. Quake dominated the match and should be happy with the 3 points which gives them a share of the competition lead.

 

16 boys – Quake 8 (Danny Araujo 3, Shannon Fielding 2, Bruno Antelmi 2, OG) – Mascot 6

 

This was another close one. In a game not highlighted by good defending, our boys did it the hard way, with the win not secured until late in the game. With both teams practically going goal-for-goal all game and 14 goals scored, it was a very entertaining match. Danny Araujo was outstanding with his runs, and was well supported by Bruno Antelmi and Shannon Fielding. 

16 girls – Quake 1 (Jemma Crane) – Mascot 5

 

After taking an early lead via Jemma Crane, the Mascot team showed why they are currently leading the comp with a comprehensive win over our courageous girls. Once again using our 14 girls as back-up, the Vipers showed their superiority and took the game deservedly. However, our girls fought all the way and at half time and only down 2-1, Quake had a perfect chance to cause an upset.

 

Youth Men – Quake 3 (Daniel Rees, Tom Herceg, Jake McGing) – Mascot 5

 

This was a case where a slow start and an even slower finish do not earn you any points. The highly fancied Quake Youth team could not cope with the more aggressive and precise finishing of the Vipers. If anything, the score flattered Quake as they looked a little flat from the start. Finding the right combinations is always difficult and it is a challenge for the coaching staff of this team. However, with talent to burn, it should not take long before they return to the winner’s circle.

 

Women – Quake 4 (Zoeie Redman 2, Claire Walsh, Sam Muscat) – Vipers 3

Another close one! After Zoeie scored a double, Quake took an early 2-0 lead and looked in control. However, the good Vipers outfit came back strongly and took the lead in the second half by 3-2. However, 3 unanswered Quake goals sealed the win for Tommy Thomson’s girls who are just one win from top spot.

 

Men – Quake 5 (Mark Symington 2, Simon Keith, Ian McAndrew, Eli Squillaciotti) – Vipers 2

In an often physical encounter, Quake took all 3 points from the previously undefeated Vipers. After conceding an early goal, Quake fought very hard to go to the break even at 2-piece. Whilst the first half belonged to the Vipers (possession and chances), the second told a different story. A more composed and fitter Quake team dominated and controlled the game scoring 3 unanswered goals to take the points and take a share of the competition lead with 4 other clubs, all on 2 wins and 1 loss in an even and interesting competition. 

Quake is away to Sydney City next Saturday at Bankstown Basketball Stadium.
