Versus South Coast Taipans

On Saturday, Quake visited Premier League newcomers South Coast Taipans in Match Day 6 of the NSW Premier League and came away victors with 6 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses (19 points). It was an enjoyable day played in their very comfortable venue in the South Coast.

The results were as follows:

12 boys – Quake 1 (Cooper De Sousa) – Taipans 2

We must be fair and say that this was not our best performance. Having seen improvement over the last few weeks, the team looked a little lost on the larger court. We created some chances but in the end, Taipans deserved the win.

12 girls – Quake 2 (Rosie Galea 2) – Taipans 2

Quake can consider themselves a little unlucky in this one. Whilst creating plenty of chances, not only could we score just the 2, but we helped them with their 2. In the end, a draw probably the fair result.

14 boys – Quake 7 (Yasser Al Taay 2, Trent Sierra, Lachlan Roberts, Luke Pereira, Anthony Haddad, Naderr Alnimer) – Taipans 2

After a couple of poor results, this team came out to win this one. However, they conceded the first goals of the match and had to come from behind to take all points. And they did it with ease, as they steam rolled the Taipans and in the process, grabbed 2nd spot on the ladder. Good games all-round, however strong games from Trent and Naderr.

14 girls – Quake 1 (Ruby Mosca) – Taipans 2

I am a huge fan of this team, but it has to be said, it was a disappointing result. Previously unbeaten, the competition front-runners were a little flat against a team that grew in confidence as time passed. Missing many chances in front of goal came back to haunt them. A great solo effort by Ruby Mosca got the team back in the game but were unable to convert. In the end, congratulations to the Taipans on their first victory of the season, as Quake keep the competition lead after a number of results went their way.

16 boys – Quake 11 (Matias Da Silva Santos 3, Daniel Araujo 3, Bruno Antelmi 2, Jack Taseski 2, Nico Ortega) – Taipans 0

Today we saw a very clinical display by this team who currently lead the competition, albeit on a superior goal difference from Sydney City. Slick passing, great finishing and more importantly, unselfish play resulted in this demolition of last placed Taipans. By ‘unselfish’ we mean players making the right decision and finding a better placed teammate to finish a move, rather than try to do it all themselves. It was a good confidence builder as the State Titles loom and the second half of the season is around the corner.

16 girls – Quake 2 (Jemma Crane, Chrystal Duggan) – Taipans 0

Fielding just 3 of their already small squad, the 16 girls managed a great win, wonderfully supported by the 14 girls. Ironically, they could not win their own game but ensured that we won this one. Sitting just one point out of the top 4, this team is working very well despite their troubles.   With Jemma, Chrystal, Indi, Lauren, Ruby, Ashlee and Mel backing up on a very hot and humid day, it was a magnificent effort and probably the win of the day.

Youth Men – Quake 6 (Harley Da Silva 2, Daniel Vellonio 2, Matt Trotter, Bruno Antelmi) – Taipans 5

In an extremely tough competition, no game can be taken for granted and no win completed until that final whistle. Doing it seemingly easily, Taipans set the game up for a grandstand finish coming back to almost grab something from the match. Missing a couple of players, Quake had enough class to win this game twice. However, a determined and classy Taipans outfit had other ideas. In the end, the Quake crowd was happy to hear that final whistle.

Women – Quake 8 (Sam Muscat 4, Stephanie Haim 2, Laura Donnelly, Justine Vella) – Taipans 0

As the score suggests, this was one way traffic, as the Quake girls cemented 2nd spot, just one win from the lead. With Sam scoring 4 and Justine grabbing one on debut. In a game which never rose to any heights, Quake made sure of the win plus improved their for-and-against.

Men – Quake 6 (Danny Martinez 2, Dean Lockhart 2, Shayne Ardle, Ian McAndrew) – Taipans 2

A good result for our men who needed this win to stay in touch with the front runners. Conceding the first goal, Quake never panicked and worked hard for their win. With doubles to Danny and Bully, one to Macca and one to Shayne Ardle on debut, the 3 points keep Quake well in touch with the rest of the pack as a round of upsets favour the Campbelltown team.
