Boom time for Nathan

One of our own YMCA players, Nathan Herbert, has been named in a 36-man Australian basketball squad.

Nathan's rise to contention for national honours follows his contribution to the South Dragons' win in last season's NBL title.

He will have the chance to impress new Boomers coach Brett Brown, who has replaced Dragons' coach Brian Goorjian, at a training camp in Canberra on June 19. The Boomers will tour China, Argentina and Brazil befoe the FIBA Oceania Championships against New Zealand in August.

The Dragons clinched the last NBL final in game five of the playoffs against Melbourne Tigers.

The Dragons had finished on top of the NBL ladder after finishing on the bottom the previous year. This is the first time this has happened in almost 30 years of NBL action.

Nathan, in his second year with the Dragons, averaged 8 points per game in almost 20 minutes of game time, and was been a significant contributor off the bench.

During the play-offs, he averaged 3 points per game in about 16 minutes of game time and was praised by Foxtel commentators for his consistent, disciplined defence.
