Madison Koehler takes top junior title

Each year the YMCA Basketball Club recognises a junior player or coach who has made a significant contribution to the club through their involvement and through the way they represent the club in the basketball community.

This year the award was presented to Madison Koehler who started with the club in the Under 10 program in 2001, following her two older sisters Gemma and Abbey into the YMCA program.

She played each year in the domestic competition, regularly being selected in the representative program and ITC program in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Madi was also selected and represented Country Victoria at Under 16, 17 and 18 age levels, winning gold medals at both Under 16 and Under 17.

Madi first played with the Y's Division 1 women’s team in 2006-7 at age 15, and has played in that team ever since. She missed the 2007 championship with health problems culminating in a heart operation but in 2008 bounced back better than ever and won the MVP for the Division 1 women’s team at the senior presentation night on Friday, September 5.

Madi was selected not only for her basketball ability but also for the way she has represented the basketball club not only in 2008, but throughout her basketball association with the YMCA and is truly a worthy winner of the Junior Basketballer of the Year.
