All,
There has been some debate over the on field numbers allowed during the finals series. The GSJ rules provide Match Numbers that are the ‘ideal’ number of players on the ground. This is based on the age of the children, their skill level and the size of the grounds. During the year the region allowed coaches to exceed the Match number if both coaches agreed.
For the first week of the finals the match number was enforced as the maximum number permissible on the field. This is based on the factors outlined above. Whilst this is within the current GSJ rules it is a deviation from what was allowed during the year. Even though last week’s interpretation could be continued restricting all sides to the match number; the Regional committee has decided to allow clubs the flexibility to maximise participation if both coaches agree - as has been the case throughout the year.
Therefore for the rest of the finals series the maximum number of players on the field can be increased as follows as long as both coaches agree:
U10 – 15 players maximum
U11/12 – 18 players maximum
U14/16 – 18 players
If both coaches cannot agree then the match number will apply:
U10 – maximum 12 players on field
U11/12 – maximum 15 players on the field
U14/16 - maximum 18 players on the field.
Mandatory evening down still applies in all cases.
As all teams participated under the same rules last week no one was disadvantaged more than anyone else. Therefore there is no issue and no right of appeal.
