Round #1 saw a very emotional day across the Penrith Club. Saturday was definitely a day to remember as some players and teams took to the field in their very first game of AFL.
The Under 10 Whites who had a team full of new-time players had a tough first encounter against Blue Mountains White. Despite Mercy Rule at 3 quarter time, the team enjoyed the fun and the competition.
Penrith White 0-0-0 v BMW 10-0-60
The opposite applied in the Under 10 Red game as the Quakers Hill team went to Mercy at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Reds carried on to notch up a new club record for Under 10s, scoring 17-11-113.
Penrith Red 9-6-60 v Quakers Hill 0-0-0
The first Under 11 competition since Season 2001 got off well with a win to Penrith against the Quakers Hills Bombers in a low scoring affair.
Penrith 5-10-40 v Quakers Hill 4-5-29
It was all one-way traffic as the dominating Penrith Under 12 team took to Quakers Hill to have them at Mercy by 3 quarter time.
Penrith 10-13-73 v Quakers Hill 2-1-13
The Penrith White team had a big welcome to the Under 14 competition in a tough & torrid game against Sth Campbelltown-Ingleburn. A moving tribute was paid to ex Blue Mountains President, Shane Whitelaw by family friend, Michael Elliott pre-match. Shane who played a big part in Michael's development, was unfortunately killed in a car accident earlier this year. On a happier note, Kayla Badger kicked a female club match record of 2 goals.
Sth Campbelltown-Ingleburn 13-12-90 v Penrith 5-1-31
As was to be expected, the Under 14 Penrith Red match was full of emotion as a minute's silence was observed across Greygums for Jim Blewitt. Jim (father of Brad) passed away last Thurday after a long battle with leukaemia. A moving moment of true AFL-spirit came as the Quakers Hills players presented Brad with a flower tribute in memory of his father and after hand shakes all around, it was now time for footy.
The Bombers lead the way but a gutsy second-half fightback saw the Swans steam away, kicking 7-5 to nil in the final term. Brad Blewitt made it a day to remember with 3 goals and he and Mum Jenny thanked the Bombers post match for their sportsmanship, inter-club spirit and kindest & sincere thoughts paid earlier. WELL DONE BOMBERS.
Penrith 12-12-84 v Quakers Hill 4-3-27
The final game of day saw Penrith Under 16 exert their power with a further Mercy-rule result by 3 quarter time. Unrelenting defence and a speedy misfield sliced a hole for leading forwards. Unlike past years, fantastic ball delivery to the forward line saw Jake Pianta & Robert Pasfield finish with 4 goals a-piece.
Penrith 13-14-92 v Quakers Hill 0-2-2
Well done to all teams
