Aug 22 2009 Semi Finals Match Report
U12 Black met with the undefeated Minor Premiers Emu Lions at Dukes Oval on Saturday in the semi final play-off of 1 v 2 to see which team would sail straight into the Grand Final and which would fight it out next week at the preliminaries. It was with focus and true spirit that the Roos took to the opposition on the Lions home ground and first quarter showed the Kangas exploding into life, coming off at the break 3-2 versus the Lions single point. The second quarter measured up with a further 5 points to the Lions while the Kangas added 1-3 so halftime break offered a little breathing space to the hopeful Roos as they prepared for the final and most telling half. As predicted, the third quarter had the Lions lift a notch with 3 straight goals to the Kangas 2-5 and while the Lions continued to creep up the scoreboard, the Roos refused to buckle kicking 1-5 to the Lions 3-3 in the final term. The siren had a jubilant Kangaroo squad clutching a well earned ticket straight into the Grand Final. Points to Henry (0-1), Jack B (1-1), Max (0-1), Seb (1-0), Pat (1-3), Ash (0-1), Luke (2-3), Jack M (0-1), Sean (2-0) with three rushed. Jack Moore received Man of the Match but all players deserve high praise for their resilience and outstanding play today.
Final score BMK 7-14-56 def. Emu Lions 6-9-46. Grand Final Day is 5 September on the new emerald turf of Blacktown Olympic Park. We wish all the very best to U12 White in their preliminary play off next week and to the U14s in their GF game at Blacktown. Finals info on the club website www.kangaroos.aflnswact.com.au
U14 High stakes with today's game as the winner has automatic entry to the grand final to be held in two weeks time at the new Blacktown AFL Stadium. I am certain that all of the admiring fans in attendance were nervous before and during the game but with no reason as this well drilled and excellently coached team followed the game plan to the letter. The Roos started solidly and quickly took a commanding lead, which they would not relinquish. The boys in the end were comfortable winners with a 72 point winning margin. Three goals each to Sam Hunt and Jake Gilliland and one goal each to Brad Camilleri, Oli Ibbotson, Kade Kelly and Ben Falchi. The boys also hit the post three times. Great games today by Aidan Quicke, Ben Skinner and Ben Falchi but the most impressive was their "man mountain" ruckman Harrison Cheesman who not only kicked five goals, he absolutely dominated the ruck. He left players in his wake, bamboozled by his skill, size and natural football ability. Harrison was inspirational. All of the boys were professional and focused throughout the game, never allowing the Tigers in the contest. It must be said that again our super coach Lyle Thomas had the boys primed for a great win and his use of the players today was faultless. A very comprehensive win especially in such a crucial game. Final score was Roos 104 def. South West Tigers 32.
