Match Reports Round 11 – June 27 2009
U12 Blue A good local derby as Blue and White met in their new strips for the first time. Only two points in it a three quarter time as straight kicking kept the Blues in the hunt. Goals to Hugo MacBean, Thomas Moore (2), Plugger DeLaMare (3) and Blues player of the day Christopher Dzwinek. Benjamin Rich attacked the ball well while Matthew Taper continues to impress with his development. Kye Gordon and Stuart Smith ran hard all game and racked up plenty of possessions. A big thanks to the players from the White team that helped us out. Final scores Blue 7-1-43 def by White 10-13-73
U12 White It was quite a game yesterday. The U12 Blue team really came together and rose up to take it to us after our first meeting. The game was very even up to the end of the third quarter with the score being 37-39. The margin had been less than 3 points in the earlier quarters. The Whites were really starting to look at the scoreboard, thinking that the unimaginable could happen - that the Blues could actually beat them. Up till then the game was quite a "relaxed" affair, even a bit slow, but the fourth quarter changed everything. The White team piled on another five goals, three behinds to a single goal by the Blue team. Special mention to Carlton Bernays who was simply everywhere and really took it up to the other team. For that he was awarded Man of the Match. Mr Malone (Pat) really got going as well after he had adjusted his socks to his liking in the first quarter and for his efforts was awarded Best Effort.
U12 Black The Roos expected a tough game against a tough opponent today and met the undefeated top-of-the-ladder Emu Lions with 2 players absent and 2 players injured. The home crowd was supportive and the players optimistic and from the beginning put in the work required given the circumstances. Great work by Pete Frith (Best Effort) and Mark Noney, with a good show of skill by Luke Hyland (Man of Match 0-2)) and support by Micah Bawden (Best Effort). Slick moves when it counted kept the Kangas in the game and great work by Chris Dzwinek (1-0) and Patrick de la Mare (5-1) gave much needed breathing room. Ben Egan and Jack Moore continued to play some superb footy and our rookies continue to grow in confidence and game understanding. Final score BMK 6-5-41 def by Emu 8-5-53.
U16 A much anticipated match as the last time these two teams met, the Roos saved their best until the final quarter for a 4 point win. This time the Roos started best with good centre clearances and early goals. Campbelltown then warmed to the task and were soon in front, showing good speed and high marking. The Roos were behind by 31 points at three quarter time and needed a big effort to be any chance. The final quarter of spectacular football saw the Roos keep Campbelltown to a single point while booting 4-4 to narrowly miss out on a complete come back. Goals to Aidan Noney, Luke Jones, Lachlan Cox, Campbell Hislop, Nicholas Senti, Harry Doyle, Samuel Hunt and Joseph Hunt (4). Roos player of the day was Logan Johnstone with a high work rate, winning plenty of contested possessions as did Brendan Reed. Final scores Roos 11-11-77 def by Campbelltown 13-3-81
