U10 Blue v U10 White: A Roo wrestle as the two under 10 Kangaroo teams played each other at Tom Hunter Park on Saturday. Scores were level at the end of the first quarter before the White team took a 7 point lead into half time. The Blue team kicked back in the third with a goal to Benjamin Wooldridge and three to Plugger DeLaMare.
Good games by all of the Blue Roos with Tasman Sadler, Hamish Macphail and Luke Hodges covering lots of territory. Final Scores: White 5-4-34 def Blue 4-0-24
U11 v Emu Lions: All teams heading towards the end of the season will look to topple teams higher on the ladder and true to form the Emu Lions met the Kangaroos at Tom Hunter Park with a much hungrier appetite. The Kangaroos failed to find form this weekend as a team but there were some good individual performances such as Eliza Wallace (1-0) and Georgia Addison who always give 100%. Ashton Hogan (1-0) and Ben Egan are both looking at a great finish to the season and James Colless and Mark Noney put in the hard yards. Best Effort to Tom Morgan this week and Player of the Match went to Dan Skinner who put in a marathon effort (2-3). Thanks to Captain Peter Frith. The team needs to do a little quiet reflection this week with only 3 games left until the end of the competition season but as noted on game day, losing is as important as winning in the forming of great sports people and how we lose shows the team within. Well done. Special thanks to Patrick de la Mare, Jack Shahoud, Kye Gordon and Stuart Smith. Final score: 4-6-30 def by Emu Lions 8-5-53.
U12 v Emu Lions: Round 13 saw another tough battle with the Emu Plains/Glenmore Park Lions at Tom Hunter Park. The Lions came out swinging with a disciplined and physical assault, using their bigger bodies to advantage and leaving the Kangas shell-shocked with a dominant 4.1 to 1.1 first quarter. But the second term saw a magnificent seven-goal resurgance from the Roos crew after some field changes to nullify the Lions strategies. The move of Hayden Rothe to the centre was instrumental in allowing our midfield to get the crucial clearances. Captain Jack Pepper relocated to the half back line to counter the Lions strength and the sublime skills of crack midfielders Jacob Field and Aidan Quicke came to the fore with two of the most outstanding individual performances of the year. Kade Kelly and Jacob Gilliland did the hard work up forward, Kade making it look easy with a clinical display of precision leading, marking and goal kicking; booting a stunning 6.1. Brian Martland yet again dominated the ruck against a signficantly taller opponent, backing up with ferocious tackling. Freddie Fletcher was tireless and and his relentless pursuit of an opponent provided one of the moments of the match. Everyone chipped in, with strong ground work by James Martland in defence, a fine performance by Liam Cox and tireless efforts from Luke Hyland and Ross Callander. The Lions steadied for an even third quarter but the Roos stretched the lead with a 5-goal final term to win the match 15.7 (97) to 9.2 (56). Our borrowed U11's players, Georgia Addison, the talented Jay Watson and Daniel Ibbotson made crucial contributions, with Daniel kicking a freak goal under tremendous pressure. The Kangeroos can be proud of their resolve and never-say-die attitude which has cemented them third place on the competition ladder.
U16 Vs Emu Lions: Without the help of some of the U14’s players Sam, Billy, Ollie and Jesse, the Roos would not have been able to field a side this week. Right from the start they were in for an extremely tough work out against the more experienced opponents. After a bruising first quarter the Roos put together some promising moves but could not stem the flow of goals from the Lions. Matt Martland did everything possible in the ruck ably supported by Luke Noney who wouldn’t take a backward step. It was pleasing that the players did not give up and came away with some nice goals towards the end of the match. With the return of most of the players next week the Roos are looking forward to hitting their stride in the coming rounds.
