Blue Mountains Kangaroos JAFL
Match Reports Round 7 24/5/08
U10 Blue v Red Swans: A tough game for the Kanga Blues with three key players missing the start of play. The undefeated Swans kicked away to an early lead as the Kanga defense worked hard to man-up. Best games to date by Lachlan Leaf and Cameron Fenner in the centres and Matthew Tomczyk in the forwards. The second half saw the Roos kick into gear and the spectators enjoyed some end to end footy and great skills. Excellent team work by Benjamin Rich and Plugger DeLaMare led to the Kangas only goal.
Final scores: Kangas 1-2-8 def by Swans 9-6-60
U10 White v Penrith White: This week we had a couple of reasons to celebrate, Wilson Dowling followed up last weeks 2 goals with 3 more this week, he also won our player of match award and did all this on his birthday. Happy birthday Wilson and well played. Sean Talavera added 4 goals to his growing tally for the year, Max Bragg added 2 more whilst Aeden McKinnon and Harry Youngman each scored goals. Matthew Field was as reliable as ever and Thomas Pepper really got involved. Jeb Burton has continued to improve and played a great game. I was pleased to see Chase Hunter on the field after last weeks injury, a decision that was made just prior to start time, well played Chase, I have stocked up on ice to keep the swelling in the fingers down this week. Bryce Acton played a great game this week and I am looking forward to see his dedication to the team continue.
Final score was decided by mercy rule in the third quarter with official score reading BMK 66 to Penrith 6.
U11 v Penrith Swans: We met Penrith for the first time this season, down at Greygums Oval under perfect conditions. Again with thanks to Pat De La Mare (2-1) and Thomas Moore (1-0) from U10 Blue for backing up in our game to fill numbers, the U11s took the field with real focus which they carried with them right through the game. Everyone deserved a team award today but they went out to Peter Frith (0-1 Man of the Match) and Connor Browne. Special mention to Georgia Addison, James Colless (1-3), Eliza Wallace, Cameron Ellis and Mark Noney for always going in hard at the ball and to Dan Skinner (4-5) for great work in the forwards. Daniel Ibbotson and Ben Egan (C) had one of their best games this season and consistent effort by Jack Moore (1-2), Jay Watson (1-3) and Tom Morgan sealed the deal.
Final score: BMK 10-15-75 def Penrith 1-4-10
U12 v Penrith SwansThis was our most exciting match to date, as the U12 Kangas faced the mighty Penrith Swans, one of the top two teams in the competition. The Kangas crew impressed tremendously with their best performance of the year, narrowly losing by just over a goal after getting within one point in the final quarter. The final score of 72 to 64 reflected the intensity of the contest. The first quarter was a Swans onslaught and it looked like a hefty loss was looming, but the Roos came back strongly from the second quarter onwards, increasing their effort and demonstrating some slick passages of play. Every player in the team contributed, lifting their game to a new level and rising to the challenge of competing against the competition's best. Freddie Fletcher was outstanding in defence as was Luke Hylands, both players showing huge improvements in every game they play. Jack Bragg (3 goals), Jacob Field and Jay Watson (U11) were brilliant as ever, Aidan Quicke (4 goals) provided a strong marking and accurate kicking target up forward whilst stalwart Liam Cox played one of his best games, with some stand-out efforts leading directly to scoring opportunities. Brian Martland was ferocious in the ruck whilst brother James made the tackle of the day, bringing one of the Swan's best players to ground in a critical situation. Hayden Rothe also put in his finest effort of the year, displaying determination and bravery. Jacob Gilliland held fast in the half back line under a barrage of Swans attacks, also contributing a goal when working in the midfield and Jack Pepper steadied the game from full back after starting at full forward for the first quarter. We'd like to thank the Swans for being great hosts and competitors and for loaning us players to beef up our undersized team. Especially notable were Swans players Hayden (No. 8) and Lauren (?) (No. 13), who put in a big effort when playing for the Roo's and made valuable contributions to our team. A great game and a great effort from all the team.
U14 v Penrith Swans: The u14's travelled to Penrith on Saturday to test their skills against the Penrith Swans on their large and unforgiving home ground. It was going to be a tough day, with 4 talented players unable to take the field, however, the boys started well but were unable to trouble the scorers. The second quarter showed a glimpse of the boys best footy, with exceptional ball movement and tough tackling, however without key forwards Nick Senti and Hamish Burton, the boys were unable to convert the numerous opportunities. The second half saw 2 goals, one each to Harry Cheesman and Jesse Hyland, and some best on ground performances by the half backs James De Mattia, Tim Jones and Paul Benson. Despite some ordinary results in the last few weeks, the team is showing great improvement as each week goes by, and some favourable results are just around the corner.
Final score Roos 2.3.15 to Swans 11.12.78.
U16 v Penrith Swans: A promising start to the game by the Roos ended abruptly when a slick Swans outfit top geared to produce some great football and take a handy lead into the second quarter. The Roos team, led by the inspiring Luke Noney, thwarted a whitewash and by the end of the second quarter Tim Morley-Sattler had kicked a great on-the-spot goal which lifted the spirits. Again the physical strength of Declan and Phillip Clear, Joshua Powell, Matt Martland and Otis Blair took the shine off the Swans attack while Maclane Mitchell, Zac Watson, Garth Travers and Joseph Hunt hounded their bigger opponents and were never disheartened in both attack and defence. As the game blew out in the Swans’ favour Sam Walton and James Colquhoun were singled out for rough treatment but always lifted themselves and continued to re-enter the fray with renewed enthusiasm. While our young men were a little disheartened by the eventual pounding on the scoreboard, all parents were proud of the qualities shown by our team this week...Well done. Special mention to Harry Cheesman and Jake Henderson from the U14’s Roos side, for completing our run on team. We hope the experience was enjoyable for you. Also get well soon to our captain Harley Stibbard who unfortunately broke his arm during last week’s game. Goal scorer Tim Morley-Sattler 1.
Final score: BMK 1-1-7 def by Swans 17-24-126.
