U10 Blue v BMK White: The local derby this Saturday with half of the Kangaroos finest under 10âÂÂs taking on the other half. A close game was expected as the teams looked pretty even on paper. The White Roos got the early lead while the Blue Roos had no luck converting their opportunities. Goals to Joseph Loxley, Benjamin Rich and two to Patrick De La Mare while Tasman Sadler was robbed of a major in the final seconds. Best game played by Jack Shahoud who is finding his form while best effort goes to Matthew Tomczyk. A grand group huddle after the match with both teams âÂÂsingingâ the club song with gusto.
Final score Blue 4-6-30 White 7-6-48.
U10 White v BMK Blue: All the Blue Mountains White boys played very well this week, the first quarter was a bit slow as the boys and their coach were still trying to come to terms with the interpretation of some of the new rules. The second and third quarters saw a huge improvement in attitude and confidence and the boys had a twenty point lead at three quarter time. The Blue team fought back well in the fourth quarter but could not quite close the margin. This week there were seven individual goal kickers; Max Bragg, Matthew Field, Lachlan Kelly, Pat Malone, Thomas Pepper, Christian Ridley and Sean Talavera. These scorers were backed up with a point from Jack Maidment. Aeden Mckinnon played very well in defence, and Xander as always gave 100%. A great team effort.
U11 v Emu Lions: Saturday morning legs took a little while to click into first gear but the Kangaroos didnâÂÂt disappoint and took the eager Lions by surprise as they kicked and marked well out of pressure, honing their skills with each quarter passing. At quarter time break the teams were in deadlock but the Kangasâ determination and commitment steadily drove them forward. All players put in a huge amount of effort and were well rewarded with a final siren celebration. Goals to Jack Moore (2), Ashton Hogan (1), Dan Skinner (3) and Eliza Wallace (1). Thanks to the Emu Lions for providing a sunny day and good ground conditions as well as an extra couple of players each quarter. Player of the Match was Georgia Addison and Best Effort Eliza Wallace. Another superb team effort!
Final score BMK 7-13-55 def Emu Lions 6-1-37.
U12 v Emu Lions The U12 Kangas enjoyed their first win of the season in this round 2 game against a gallant Emu Plains/Glenmore Park team, the final score of 12.4 (70) to 6.8 (44) not reflecting the closeness and excitement of the contest. It was the Roo's ability to convert forays forward to goals-on-the-board that made the difference, as plenty of time was spent in hard-fought defence. Star player of the day was Kade Kelly, who demonstrated tremendous tactical intelligence once moved from his regular full-forward role to the midfield; plugging the gap in defence, backing up and sheparding team mates as well as kicking 3 well-deserved goals. Jacob Gilliland (3 goals) performed with the ceaseless hard-work and determination that has made him one of our most important players, whilst Jacob Field displayed both his superior ball skills and the complete fearlessness that eventually earned him time on the sidelines sporting the scars of battle. Revelation of the day was Freddie Fletcher, who in only his second game became a force to be reckoned with, attacking the ball with gusto and performing solidly in defence. Another player to show marked improvement was Luke Hyland in the half back line, this week really getting stuck into the action. Again we have to thank the U10 and U11 boys who helped make up the side, especially as we were missing a couple of key players this week. Amongst these was Ashton Hogan, playing for the team for the first time and filling the full forward position very effectively.
U14 v SSW Combined: Saturday saw a return to Tom Hunter Park for the Blue Mountains Kangaroos u14's, keen to follow up from the first round victory, to take on the Ingleburn/Sth Campbelltown Magpies. The Roos showed excellent skill once the ball was in hand and moved effortlessly into attack. However it was our defence that struggled with the height of two exceptionally tall boys and a well drilled team to kick them the ball. Despite the Roos loss 5.7.37 to Magpies 17.12.114, there were many positives. Oli Ibbotson and Liam Davey with 2 goals each, Jake Henderson and Ben Skinner in the midfield creating many attacking raids, and a solid performance down back despite a lack of height by Aidan Noney and James Smith.
U16 v SSW Combined: An early start to the training season and hard work by Coach John Tweeddale contributed to a mighty first game for the Kangaroos, displaying great skills and field position. Roos controlled the game from the start, winning most rucks and producing moves that were well planned and orchestrated. A pleasing part of the game was the number of clean marks taken under pressure both above the head and on the chest. Man of the Match was impossible to pick with high standards displayed by the team although Matt Martland and JJ Benson set up the centre nicely for a clear path forward. Special mention to our backs combination who kept the opposition goal less in the first half. Congratulations to Joseph Hunt, Aaron Driscoll, Nick Reeves, Josh Powell and James Colquhoun in their very first game of Australian Football with all boys contributing to the result. Also congratulations to the whole team with every boy scoring a goal! The boys look set for a big season.
Final Score: BM Kangaroos 91 def South Combined 1.
