U10 White v St Clair Crows: A great training session during the week left the team feeling very confident going into this game against St Clair, and the result was an exceptional performance. Led by Captain Lochie Lelliott, (1point), the Whites chased and tackled everything that moved. POM Nick McMaster was on the ball all game and Levi Whitmore, Gabe Schussler and Oliver Burns all had outstanding games. Tim Griffiths, Emlyn Wagstaff, Ben Leaf and first gamer Jasper Vilder all played well and the team showed their sportsmanship by playing quarters for the undermanned crows. Goals from Zac Briggs, Ben Lambert and Harry Morgan.
U10 Blue v Rooty Hill: A great game at home with the friendly Power team who travelled up the hill to a beautiful Mountains morning. The sides were well matched and the players responded well to all instruction and direction (even when the coach sent the forwards up the wrong end to kick a goal for the opposition!) From a relatively slow start, the Roos improved each quarter as they remembered game instruction and put it into play. Goals to Rueben Ford (Player of the Match), Elliot Dunn and a point to Tristan Takle. Strong long kicks by Zac Comito, superb clearing in the defensive forward by Oliver Fenn and more clean marks to Josh Egan and Joshua Archer. Cecilia Hunt (captain), Thomas Tritton and Gus Chen worked well through the centres. Again, a big thank you to the parents for your help and support on game day.
U12 Div 1 Was that a lesson? Yes - and we learnt it. The Rooty Hill Power really lived up to their name and showed us what power was. End of the first quarter they had a 17 point lead which was extended to a 53 point lead by half time. They had a very well drilled ruck team and some really good markers in strategic positions around the oval. The Kangas were making more errors than usual due to the pressure from Power but they kept trying and never gave up. The mid game "discussion" was rather serious, especially when the Kangas realised it was only two kicks from a mercy. In the second half they showed they had learnt the lesson and really slowed the Power down - Kangas won the third quarter by 2 points and the fourth by 5 points. Obviously not enough for the result the boys wanted BUT it sure showed grit, determination and teamwork to turn the first half around and win the second. Man of the Match went to Jeb Burton who really played himself out in the ruck during the first half then wherever we needed him in the second half. Best Effort went to Stuart Smith who was constantly there working away and trying all through the game, even to the extent of using his nose to try and stop the opposition!
