History of the Lions - Work in Progress
As the Lions move into their tenth anniversary, it is time (overdue actually)to reflect on the past. Each year has been allocated some general history. All contributions are welcome and indeed encouraged. As the years float by, it is easy to "embellish" what happened in the early days. Of course we are trying to keep things as factual as possible, but as any old journalist will tell you "Never let the facts get in the way of a good story" So send off any stories,corrections or missing links from the past to

2000 - The Lions are Born
It was Sydney Olympic Year. The start of the new millenium. The commencement of a new era in AFL when a local Western Sydney Competition was formed and the Emu Plains Lions were born. Click on "more" for full history.

2001 - What a Year
2001 saw a good increase in numbers for the Lions. The Brisbane Lions won their first AFL premiership but were outdone by their smaller cousins in Emu Plains when the Lions mighty roar was heard. Click on "more" for full history.

2002 - The Tradition Continues
More expansion saw the Lions field yet another age group with the Under 14's added to the newly renamed "Greater Western Football Association" The Brisbane Lions won back to back premierships, just like the Under 10's team of 2001. Click on "more" for full history.

2003 - Let there be Light
The Brisbane Lions made it a "three peat" but the courageous Cubs from Emu Plains could not manage silverware in 2003. The new management were finding their feet, but there was light at the end of the tunnel. Click on "more" for full history.

2004 - 5 Years Old and More Silverware
2004 saw another successful year for the Lions with the Under 12's gaining the ultimate prize whilst the Under 14's just fell short for the same honours. The club also fielded a team in the Under 17's.

2005 - Girl Power & Mountain Lions
Another good year for the club with the emerging numbers of Auskickers including ten girls ! The Under 16's joined the Wollongong competition after merging with Blue Mountains. Click on "more" for full history.

2006 - Greater Sydney Juniors
It was full steam ahead for the Lions with a record number of players playing under the new "Greater Sydney Juniors" banner. The Lions were active in the community providing opportunities for both High Schools and Primary Schools being assisted by the club.

2007 - Super Sixteens Reign Supreme
A new president and a history making display by the Under 16's in winning the first ever flag in that age divison whilst the rest of the club had another wonderful year

2008 - A Year of New Initiatives
2008 saw the Lions expand in many areas such as Auskick, Umpire Development and creating "senior" pathways for their "veteran" players, as well as fielding five competition teams.

2009-Tenth Year Celebrations
What have the Lions got in store for 2009, the tenth year of their existence. From baby cubs in 2000 to Kings of the Jungle just ten years later. Keep watching this space for details.
