The Lions went on the road on Saturday when they travelled to Cook Park, St Mary's to take on the St Clair Crows in all age groups. Thanks to the Crows for putting on a great day where sportsmanship was the big winner by all teams competing.
The Under 10's kicked off the day and continued their good run when they got on top of an undermanned St Clair side. The teams met recently which resulted in a narrow one point win to the Lions and a hard battle was on the cards. The Under 11's took on the undefeated Crows in what turned out to be a sensational match with the Crows hanging on for a heartstopping one point victory. Well done to both teams on having the Cook Park crowd on their toes for the entire hour. The Under 12's were impressive for such a young side and although they couldn't match the size and pace of the Crows side, kept fighting to the end. The 14's got off to a slow start and found themselves down by 44 points in the first half before "coming alive" and matching it with the Crows in the second half. In the final match, the 16's continued their good form with a big win over a committed St Clair Outfit fielding many players in their first year of AFL.
All in all it was an enjoyable day at Cook Park and the Lions would like to thank St Clair for their hospitality and good sportsmanship on the day
Under 10's Match Report
On a sunny but windy (brrrrrrrrrr) morning the U10 Lions assembled at
St Marys to take on the St Clair Crows. St Clair were short on players
so we “lent” them some Lions [thanks boys - your sportsmanship is
appreciated]. With fierce determination the points came regularly over
the first three quarters with the ‘mercy rule’ being invoked at ¾ time.
All boys played well in their allocated positions for the whole game
and the win was built on solid teamwork. Congratulation U10 Lions –
keep up the good (team) work – never stop trying.
Point scorers: Hayden Perry - 4 goals (Q1), Nicholas Flynn - 2 goals
(Q2), Derrick Visser – 3 goals (Q3) and Matty McAlpine – 1 goal (Q3).
Awards: Nicholas Flynn and Ryan O’Keefe.
