The Hunter Academy of Sport (HAS) is now calling for nominations from athletes (both boys and girls) interested in trialling for a position within the HAS 2016-2017 Australian Football (AFL) program.
The HAS AFL program plays a vital role in the AFL NSW/ACT talent pathway by identifying, monitoring and developing the skills of young Australian Football players. The program will comprise of technical, athlete education, sports science and fitness elements for squad members, and provides a talent identification platform for future talent programs.
BOYS PROGRAM
Twenty four (24) athletes (12 x U10s & 12 x U12s) will be selected to participate in the development program. The program will commence in October 2016 and conclude in April 2017.
To be eligible to apply for a position within the AFL program athletes must be 9-12 years of age (i.e born in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007)
GIRLS PROGRAM
Eighteen (18) athletes will be selected to participate in the development program. The program will commence in October 2016 and conclude in April 2017.
To be eligible to apply for a position within the AFL program athletes must be 11-14 years of age (i.e born in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005). No AFL club experience necessary. This program is open to all girls who play for a local AFL club, their school or have a sporting background with an interest in AFL.
Online applications are now open and need to be completed by Thursday 15 September 2016. Those who apply should automatically attend the trial day on Sunday 18th September 2016 to be held at McKeachie’s Run Sporting Complex, Aberglasslyn. Boys trials commence at 9am and girls at 10.30am (please arrive early for registration). Those attending the trial should wear t-shirt, shorts, boots and mouth guard. Please bring water and sunscreen.
