The Kiama Junior AFL Club hosted the Northern Districts Woonona Tigers at a sunny soaked Bonaira Oval last Sunday.
AK - The Kiama Auskickers had plenty of opportunity to have some fun and develop their skills with some healthy competition against the Northern Districts Tigers. The 10 tiger cubs were all in the older age group which allowed our older kids to have a competitive match. Great ball skills and kicking to space were the highlights and it is great to see their skills developing. Best on the day was Caelen Park
That left the 8 younger kids to have a match against one another which gave everyone multiple kicks and kept them interested as the ball was never far away. Jaspyr Larkin played a great game and won the encouragement trophy for the week.
U9 –The Kiama U9s long awaited and most anticipated match of the year so far.
The first quarter saw Power hit the ground running with Adam Moloney, Bailey Drummond, and Reuben Odlum getting first use of the ball and giving the forward plenty of opportunities. In typical Tigers fashion they fought back in the second and third quarters keeping the power scoreless for a half of footy. A great defensive effort by Grady Willis, Francis Odlum, Cooper Richards, Joel Spain, Harrison Booth and Ben McLeod limited the scoring opportunities keeping the Power within striking distance. Patrick Haig was instrumental in the centres in winning the ball at the stoppages and the forwards did not let him down. Cameron Wills ended the game with three goals and was supported well by Fergus Priest and Patrick Williams who both snared two each. In an epic final quarter the two teams went goal for goal, and in a game that will be talked about for months, the final siren went just a little too soon with the Power falling just short of the tigers total.
U11 – The Kiama U11s continued their winning streak taking their third win in a row against Tigers Gold. Jacob Hudson who began the season with a broken arm but celebrated his first game back with 2 great goals and team mates Jye Paring (3), Paddy Quinn (2), and a goal each from Dan McCombe, Isaac Estone-Jones and Mitchell Deans all joined in the goal fest. Aari Bishop and Charley McFarlane were heavily involved in the game with strong powerful tackles and Hayden Mifsud and Saxon Anderson were brilliant in defence.
Final score: Kiama Power 10-11-71 defeated Woonona Tigers Gold 6-3-39
U12 – The Kiama U12s started slowly and were outplayed in the first half but the Power woke up in the second half and competed well led by Harry Lawrence and Laura McCombe the Power owned second half.
Great work by Zac Walsh and Shaun Roach in defence managed to slow the goal scoring while the midfield tried their hearts out with Nathan Cowgill and Andy Web working extremely hard in the ruck.
Final score:Woonona Tigers 11-13-79 defeated Kiama Power 6-0-36
U14 – The Kiama U14s returned to the winners circle with contributions from the whole team lead to a solid display against the Northern Tigers. It was all about teamwork with great contributions from Kade Mace Lachlan Kirk and Dylan Bulluss dominating with 2 goals while Harry O’Brien read the play incredibly well to kick 4 goals. The Tigers put up a strong fight but unfortunately was not displayed on the scoreboard
Final score: Kiama Power 12-15-87 defeated Woonona Tigers 1-1-7
U16 – The Kiama U16 were 24 points down by the end of the first quarter but a gutsy and competitive fight back lead by Pat Gray defensive efforts forced plenty of turnover as the Power put on 21 points in the second. The see-saw tilted every quarter with the wind advantage but Ryan Brookfield brilliant cross kick deep from the boundary to the square saw Mr Magic Nic Hassler mark and kick the goal late in the 3rd . The fourth quarter come back was on with some Jack Schneider brilliance out of Centre Half Back limited the Tigers options up front and opened plenty for the Power but despite their gallant efforts they were beaten by the clock and a better team on the day.
Final Score: Woonona Tigers 10-11-71 defeated Kiama Power 7-9-51
YG U15 – The Kiama Youth Girls U15 team played a valiant game against the Northern Districts Tigers but the Kiama girls were defeated and learning the game with many new comers in 2012. There are solid improvements every week and Sam Mc Gillivray and Ashleigh Campton are displaying improved performances on the field under the guidance and leadership of one of the Powers best Georgia Hilton.
Final Score: Woonona Tigers 16-17-113. defeated Kiama Power 4-1-25
YG U18 – The Kiama Power U18 Youth Girls team were defeated by the Northern Districts Tigers as the Kiama girls were plagued by injuries particularly through their mid field. The Kiama U18s just couldn’t quite get the points on the board that they deserved with many of their kicks off the radar and pushing the 1 pointers. Georgia Hoskings and Nicola Smythe both shone in the mid-field even though both girls played with ankle injuries and Emma Cooney once again showed her skill and versatility no matter what her position on the field.
Final Score: Woonona Tigers 18-5-113. defeated Kiama Power 8-10-58
