A yeoman is a countryman, especially one of some standing, that is, good reputation, who cultivates his own land. The adjective yeomanly means sturdy and reliable. Yeoman service means good, useful, or substantial service.
No doubt, therefore, a suitable name for an association of farmers and farmers’ sons in and around Elliott 123 years ago. And still relevant during the years when yeoman service has kept the Club going long after its expansion from its original base and personnel.
