History
There was a Somerset team in various competitions between 1900 and 1948. A new Somerset (known as the Ringtails) formed to compete in the DFA from 1952 to the end of 1954 when it disbanded. Mooreville Road changed its name to Cam, as the river was the dividing line between the Ringtails and the Road. In 1973, the name was changed to Somerset.
Achievements
* As Cam (1959 to 1972), the club was never out of the finals, winning 73% of its matches, including 3 grand finals. There were 6 losing grand finals, including 3 in a row to Ridgley 1969, 1970 and 1971, before an 85 point victory under Laurie Howard in 1972.
* In 1982, under John Newman, Somerset rose from the bottom of the ladder in 1981 to a premiership in the following year. And we lost the last roster game of 1981 by 33 goals!

Club Comments
Father and son combinations have been prominent at Somerset.
* Jack Lucas coached Mooreville Road and John coached Somerset;
* Max and Darrell Shephard have both coached the Roos Seniors and Graeme was Reserves coach in his last playing year;
* Rod Pilkington was president, Wayne won 2 best and fairest and Robert played;
* Ben and Mark Havelberg were both secretaries;
And the tradition continues, with -
* Stephen Armstrong and Craig having played in the same team; and
* Kirk Hampton another one to follow in his father David's footsteps
Len Eastley who still lives in Somerset, is believed to be the oldest living Somerset player. But Bob Hilder, supporter/historian/former player, is the man you go to for the latest gossip!
Geoff Donaldson, Life Member and former president, has supplied the club with 3 players, his sons, Geoff, Ricky and current player Greg.
Add the 7 years that Ray Chamley served as Mooreville Road's president to the 8 he put in for Somerset and you get a record term for a DFA club. It's a long way from a Mooreville Road paddock to Langley Park, but the spirit lives on.
