This week we're at home to see the "young blokes" get their first look at the new St Marys under 19's on ANZAC Day with the Seniors and Reserves do battle with Reservoir.
Welcome the St Marys boys and the Rezza boys into the club after the game. Despite the building renovations, we need to show each of these clubs we are a friendly lot and despite the adverse circumstances, we'll do the best we can at making their experience with us a pleasant one.....well, maybe not out on the scoreboard !!!
There will be recognition of the ANZAC Day celebration and protocol during the day. Join us in paying respects to those service men and women who have fought, and are currently fighting, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, to protect our country. Those efforts allow us the freedom to do what we do today, without oppression.
Take a one minute ANZAC history lesson - Albert Jacka VC, MC & Bar (10 January 1893 â 17 January 1932) was a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest decoration for valour "in the face of the enemy" that can be awarded to members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces. Jacka was the first Australian to be decorated with the VC during the First World War, receiving the medal for his actions during the Gallipoli Campaign. He later served on the Western Front and was twice further decorated for his bravery.
Upon the conclusion of the war, Jacka returned to Australia and entered business; establishing the electrical goods importing and exporting business Roxburgh, Jacka & Co. Pty Ltd. He was later elected to the local council, where he became the mayor of St Kilda, Victoria. Jacka never fully recovered from the multiple wounds he sustained during his war service, and died at the age of 39....ref Wikipedia....
Canteen will be functioning from the "shed" at the side of the clubrooms ear the cricket nets.
GO WATS !!!
