Well, it was good to be back after our week off, and the weather again turned it on for us with a Magnificent Melbourne morning greeting us for a day at the footy.
Again we travelled far and wide to indulge our passion...
ON the road, 9 Red headed out to South Morang for a willing encounter.
The 10’s with made the trip to Laurimar, minus coach Joe, who’s off on holidays, a Big thanks to Fab Carelli who has been looking after the team in Joe’s absence, and clearly taking them to the next level.. No pressure, Joe, but the bar has been reset.
The 11’s also ventured out to South Morang for a highly competitive contest.
13 Blue made the trip out to Research for what was a Ripping contest
And the 16’s rounded out our travellers for the week taking on Diamond Creek in yet another committed performance from these boys.
Back at home, the top oval played host to the 9 Blue team who took on Mernda followed by 9 White who took on South Morang, in two highly entertaining encounters. Thanks to the boys who helped out South Morang to give them a full side.
Next up was Polly and his under 12’s who hosted Wallan in classic encounter to round out action on the top oval.
The girls took centre stage on the main oval in the first two games, with the 12’s taking on Yarrambat delivering a polished display and the 15’s against the might of Montmorency in a hard tough contest.
Up next were the 14’s in a top of the table clash against Epping who provided very stiff competition and finally the 15 boys closed proceedings with a workmanlike performance against Hurstbridge.
While on the 15 boys, Ben Pike pulled on the jumper for the 100th time on the weekend. Congrats, Ben, on a great achievement from all at the Club and 3 goals to boot….
To wrap it up, the 13 Red boys had the bye, and not forgetting the Auskickers who again took over the main oval on Saturday Morning.
On the senior side of things, it was a disappointing day at Macleod with all 3 teams going down. We’ll look to bounce back this weekend back at home against the Reigning Champs Greensborough in what should be a great game. Get down and support the boys if you can.
The mentors from the seniors should also be showing their faces over the coming weeks. I know some have already made it to training. Make them welcome and take on board the tips they pass on it’s a great opportunity to learn and to hear a different voice to that of your coach.
A big thanks also to Brent Renouf, assistant coach to the Seniors and an AFL Premiership player with the Hawks, who has made himself available to the coaches to do some work with those teams that want to take up his offer. The feedback from the teams that have spent time with Brent has been fantastic. To those coaches in the older age groups, if you’ve not taken up the offer, you don’t know what you’re missing out on …
In closing, it’s been a busy period with social events. This weekend in particular was jam packed. The cyclists hit the club Saturday morning for a ride and breakfast with SBS Tour De France commentator Matthew Keenan, while Trivia took over Saturday night. A very entertaining night was had by those in attendance and of course we rounded it out with our slightly late Mid-Season Coaches review Sunday night. It was great to see so many at the club.
Well done to all the social committee for the work they have done this year on our functions. It’s certainly been jam packed. These events help build and sustain a great environment around the club, so well done to all involved.
Stay tuned for what’s up next….
Team photos are this week- Blue shorts, socks and Jumper for your allocated night.
And finally with the school holidays fast approaching there is no game in the middle week of the holidays, So on the 5th of July we can all have a sleep in. With regard to training, your coach will let you know if they are going to be nice and give you the week off or not.
That’s it. Enjoy your week and we’ll see you at the footy.
Cheers
Sean.
