Forty-two players have represented the seniors and it’s only mid-year!!!!!
We are extremely happy with the progress of our young group of players that have donned the wplfc jumper in the senior team so far this year.
At only the half way mark we have seen , Oliver Dufficy, Mitch Tobin, Michael Perfetto, Adrian Natoli , Matty Vincitirio, Joe Vaccaro, Garrett McDonough and James Rizzolio ( who are all either still eligible Under 19 players or just 1st year out of the under age competition ) all make a significant contribution at Senior level.
Whilst we still have 14 players from the 2010 senior premiership side playing , it is great to see the younger players really getting a regular opportunity at senior level .
This is largely due to a big push from the whole coaching panel to reward these young guys for their hard work, and commitment to the club , all who have been very focused since the first pre-season training night last November.
Our under 19s coach, Ash McGregor has a real and genuine care for the under 19 boys. He is now in his second year of heading up the 19's and has been fantastic in getting this group together.
Matt Sleeman , who is doing a great job in his role as a senior assistant coach while also taking control of the reserve team , also has the players in his group focused on putting pressure on the senior team . Matt has also rewarded Liam McVeigh for his participation in the snr preseason, giving the U/16 boy two games in the reserves.
We know that whilst these young boys are new to senior football , improvement can be rapid ( as shown by Northcote Park over the last couple of years ) and we look forward to see these boys and some more to come , have continued improvement in the second half of this year and the next few years .
This year there is a junior mentoring program in place ( under 9's to Under 17's ) that has been set up by Paddy McVeigh and has been supported by all the senior group .
Our senior coach, Frankie Raso has been a big supporter of this program . He has worked with Paddy very closely and this first year base will serve the club very well into future years.
We know that the Juniors are the future of our club , ( as shown in the 2010 senior premiership , 12 players from west juniors ).
With many in the junior & senior club all working hard to make West a good football club to be part of, the future looks good for many years to come.
