A whirlwind 3 months has seen the mighty West Preston Reserves side divide and conquer the Division 1 reserves competition. 12 wins in a row and a fitting reward with a place in the Season Finale at Preston City oval... the Grand Final.
The Preliminary Final promised to be a cracking clash with Greensborough being extremely consistent and winning enough games to claim 2nd spot on the ladder. The Roosters were in fine form and played a robust game style to eliminate the Slime in a hard fought encounter.
Condurso was sent into the ruck with great success early in the game and gave first use to the star Rooster midfield. Peters, Belbasis and Barker were assuming control from the stoppages and not allowing the opposition to play its free flowing game. Whitaker was impressive off half back rebounding the forays forward by Greensborough and allowing the forwards opportunities in front of goal.
The biggest problem for the Roosters was themselves. Errant kicking left the door ajar for a comeback. Bonnadio was finding the ball but unable to capitalise on his scoring shots. He had 5 behinds to his name, just about as many 0s that are on the price tag to his new wheels. He was not the only culprit with a few forwards struggling to penetrate the big sticks.
The final term would be the impetus the Roosters needed for the Grand Final. A typically dominant display saw the scoreboard margin extend and the signs promising for the ultimate test in a weeks time. Dr Dre (A.Jurgens) was a big target up forward and slotted a couple of goals which is sure to alert the attention of a few Monty key backs. The most skilful left footer in the McDonagh household lit up the crowd in the final term. Garret was providing a glimpse of what is to come from the fan favourite. Some big marks and goals delighted the Rooster's crowd and is showing some ominous form coming to the business end of September.
Having passed the penultimate fixture of the season, the Roosters are seemingly ready for the big dance. Preston City Oval is as much of a home ground as J.E.Moore park for the Roosters at the moment. 3 finals wins and the crowd on their side will be a factor should the game be tight.
The group will be taken through a light week on the track by Coach Matt Sleeman as he prepares the troops for one last victory on an already impressive season.
