WEST Preston-Lakeside has secured its second Northern Football League senior flag since the merger of Preston and Reservoir Lakeside football clubs in 1998.
The Roosters (pictured) claimed a famous victory on Saturday, producing an eight-goal-to-two second half to eclipse four-time reigning champion Heidelberg by 21 points at Preston City Oval. Jake Williams, son of former Brownlow medallist Greg Williams, played a blinder for the winners and was duly awarded the best-on-ground medal, which was presented to him by his famous dad.
The triumph was the Roosters’ first senior premiership since 2003, with the 13.9 (87) to 9.12 (66) victory also snapping the club’s long losing drought against the Tigers, which had won the past 16 encounters between the two sides.
Earlier on Saturday, the West Preston-Lakeside reserves played off in their grand final, going down to Bundoora by seven points.
