The day had the makings of a huge spectacular with Teaspoon and the boss very excited about the last post unfortunately the bloke who said he was going to play the bugle live took of to the footy we reverted back to the tape. In a game which had the wind blowing straight across the ground West started well with Mick O'Neill proving a handful up forward with 2 goals took a slender lead into quarter time. The 2nd quarter we did most of the attacking and took a small lead into the long break. The 3rd quarter belonged to North kicking 6 goals 2 or 3 from our mistakes which they turned over and punished us. The last quarter was our turn to get back in the match with Luke Vincitorio inspiring everyone but the umpire with a strong tackle on North's rukman. He probably gave away a foot and a half and some 70 kgs to bring him to the ground. Micko was thrown into the ruck and continued to have an influence on the game. He finished with 4 polished goals. Deep into the last quarter The Big Piggot marked strongly and goaled. Several attempts from North to score were thrawted and when 17 yr old Jamie Doukas took a great catch in front of the members goaled and put us 7 points in front which was the final margin. Young Jake Williams had his fair share of the ball almost getting to raise his bat and the partyboy Billy Morrison gave his all across the ground. Some old stagers in Calcutt and Bardon were among the better players with Mckenzie filling a role on a very talented Harvey.
In the earlier games the reserves bounced back and took control in the 3rd quarter with some solid performances from Broad, Sanderson and Gosling to run out comfortable winners. The 19s are strting to find some form after some ordinary practice match form. The boys have now won both games and it appears that Butters is taking all the glory for the turnaround.
It was great to see another big crowd in the rooms after the game
