The City of Darebin council have recognised our own Graham Mills in their 2015 club awards as the '2015 Volunteer of the year '
The club is extremely happy that Graham has been recognised outside of our little club and we all know just how very deserving he is of this award.
See below statement from Darebin Council.
On Wednesday 11 March 2015 the City of Darebin’s Leisure Services team held the annual ‘President’s Breakfast’ at Preston City Oval. The morning was a celebration of all Darebin sporting clubs to recognise the contribution and significant impact that volunteers continue to provide for the Darebin community. I pass on a sincere thank you to all of the club representatives who made time join us for the event; it was a fantastic morning for those came along. Council continues to encourage all local clubs to work proactively with us to increase participation levels, and develop opportunities to grow and consolidate your club.
This year the president’s breakfast coincided with International Women’s Day, and the morning aimed to empower our clubs to improve gender equity and female participation in sport and physical activity. This message was reinforced by our guest speaker Geva Mentor, the Melbourne Vixens’ star defender who was voted 2014 World’s Best Netballer and part-time Community Engagement Officer for Netball Victoria. Geva reflected upon her personal journey of being a professional sportswoman and provided valuable insight into what community clubs can do to increase female participation. The morning also featured an award ceremony where Graham Mills of West Preston Lakeside FC won Sports Volunteer of the Year and Preston Cycling Club were named Community Sporting Club of the Year.
