Wow! Semi Final day is here and so is Jack Frost. I took my dog around to Crispe Park to check the surface and it was white and the temperature was-1.2°C. Training in the freezing conditions Thursday could have been a master stroke, Abbie.
The girls and parents arrived at the ground and there was a sense of calm about the approaching game but also a few nerves. The girls received last minute instructions from Abbie and were led out onto the oval by the Skipper.
From the 1st bounce you could sense that the girls had come to play. Chloe's dominance in the ruck gave our hard running midfielders first use of the ball and we dominated the 1st quarter 3.2.20 to 0.0.0. Abbie with a master stroke put Jas on the ball and on 3 occasions she took the ball out of the centre which all resulted in goals. Bridgette's hard running was inspirational and Ciara's work either on the ball or up forward was having great results. Every player did their job to perfection and Marsa's ability to run opposition players down was fantastic. Our hard working backline repelled attacks and locked the ball down on many occasions and our forwards worked hard to keep the ball in our attacking zone.
At half time we were 32 points up and even though we only won the second half by 4 points the win was very satisfying. The final score was 8.7.55 to 3.1.19. It was a great win to take us to a Preliminary final against Diamond Creek Womans FC. Abbie was spotted at Research taking notes on next week's opponent. Let's all get to training this week because we are only 1 win away from a Grand Final.
Thanks to our great support staff and to all the supporters who attended the game. It was great to look around and see the sea of West Preston faces and to see our mentoring players watching was greatly appreciated. I thought Abbie's coaching today was top class.
Quote of the week: "If it's to be, it's up to me."
