Ian Carey took over as senior coach of the club in 2006 and although the departure of Garry Ramsay after so many years left a big hole, there was not a significant turnover in the player group. Early wins and good performances against strong opposition showed some promising signs for the club, but ultimately the season petered out without a whimper.
The start to the 2007 season was the most difficult ever. The collapse of the Diamond Valley Football League, a delayed and shortened season and the drought conditions preventing training on ovals representing a huge challenge to all at the Club. Some early victories were not maintained and a final position of thirteenth on the ladder (5 wins 11 losses) was quite disappointing. Injuries played their part and the lack of depth was clearly evident in the poor showing at the Reserves level. Despite the disappointment of the season’s results, team members remain united and committed to each other. Jamie Lyngcoln won best and fairest and the runner up, Luke Carey, was outstanding throughout the season.
The hard work from Junior President Stan Harvey, coaches and parents over the previous four years was fully rewarded in 2007. While the U12s were undermanned the U10 team made history with their magnificent premiership win. All the players, parents, helpers and particularly the Coach, Mick Clear, are to be congratulated on this stirring achievement.
