Thomastown had the daunting challenge of meeting the undefeated Heidelberg at Heidelberg in Round 12. Lou Oppedisano, Adrian Marini and Nathan Spena played their first senior games for the club, with Nathan coming up from Lalor Stars Under 17's. Also back in were Anthony Volpe and Chris Horman. Rocky Collins went out injured and Michael Deagostino, Nicholas Deralas going back to the Reserves and Daniel Chadwick and Heath Maes to the Under 19's.
The game started ominously for Thomastown with Heidelberg jumping out of the blocks and had four goals on the board before Thomastown managed to get their first with a goal to Fazzari on the run. Heidelberg were continuing to get first use through the middle and the Thomastown backline were under seige, Zurek was solid and repelled many attacks from the Heidelberg team. Another four goals to Heidelberg saw them jump out to a 7 goal lead before Thomastown were able to get some momentum and kicked the next four goals to go in at quarter time trailling by 19 points.
The second quarter saw Heidelberg again take control and were quickly out to a 6 goal lead. Thomastown were able to pull a goal back but for the rest of the term kick another four goals to go in at half time with a commanding 57 point lead.
The third quarter has been the down fall in many of games so far this season and Heidelberg were able to drill home 11 goals for the quarter to Thomastown's 3 points to have a 121 point lead at three quarter time. The final term saw Heidelberg add another eight gols to Thomastown's 1 to run out victors by 165 points. Thomastown had no answer to the strength of the Heidelberg side but battled out the game to the end and showed some promising signs during the game. Fazzari with 2 goals was the main goal scorer, Best were Zurek, Micevski and Manley. Next week Thomastown play host to Northcote Park.
The Reserves who have now played about 70 players for the season went down to Heidelberg by 117 points. Higgins and Brown were the goal scorers while Meade, Deagostino and Chapkoun were the best players.
The Under 19's were able to hold off a fast finishing Heidelberg side to record a 20 point victory. With 6 minutes to go Heidelberg had reduced a three quarter time deficeit from 16 points to 2 points after Thomastown had recorded the first goal of the final quarter. Thomatown responded with the last three goals and move back in to the top 4. Chadwick and Stavridis both kicked 4 goals, while Chadwick, Higgins , Stavridis and Fowler were amongst the best players.
