Round 13 saw the first meeting between Thomastown and Fitzroy Stars, with the start of NAIDOC week expectations for a tight contest were on the cards. At the selection table Thomastown made four changes with Michael Manley back after a year out with a knee reconstruction, Patick Bonacci, Sean Abela and Simon Petkovski, out went Chris Belbasis, Sashe Spiroski, Garry Tinker and Ryan Ristic.
The first quarter saw Thomastown come out with all guns blazing in an effort to take control of the game early. Kicking with a four goal breeze Thomastown were on the board with a goal to Capeci and was quickly followed up with goals to Manley and Nedelkovski. Fitzroy were struggling to come to terms with the Thomastown mid field and it was showing on the scoreboard with Thomastown having twelve shots to two in the opening term. At quarter time Thomastown led by 45 points.
Thomastown were again on the board within a minute of play resuming in the second term to extend their margin beyond 50 points with a valuable goal against the breeze. The game then started to tighten up with the Fitzroy Stars mid field started to increase their work load and were able to lift their team mates around them. The Thomastown back line was under increasing pressure and were making some vital errors. Half way through the term and the Bears were still up by 42 points. Fitzroy Stars were able to kick six golas in the last 10 minutes of the quarter to go in at half time trailling by 11 points.
The third qaurter was another arm wrestle, with Thomastown kicking with the breeze which had dropped from the first half, they tried doggedly to build a lead but with every Thomastown goal Fitzroy Stars were able to match it at the other end. Thomastown got out at the three quarter time break with a 23 point lead thanks to a Nedelkovski goal after the siren from a mark.
It didn't take long for Fitzroy Stars to get moving in the final quarter and by the 10 minute mark had kicked four goals to take the lead for the first time in the match. Not to be out done Thomastown were able to answer with two quick goals to restore their advantage only to have Fitzroy Stars kick back and reduce the margin again. The final quarter saw Fitzroy Stars try valiantly to regain the lead but Thomastown were up to the challenge and were able to run out victors by 9 points. Scwabl with 4, Nedelkovski 3, Bonacci and Calafiore 2 each were the main goal scorers, while the best were McDonald, Wall, Rachrache and Scwabl were the best for Thomastown.
The Reserves were able to record a 42 point victory over Fitzroy Stars thanks to an 11 goal third term with the breeze. Colaci 6, Chesher, Belbasis and Gorski kicked 3 goals each. Best were Belbasis, Colaci, Vitiritti and Bektash.
The Under 19s kicked 42 goals to defeat Reservoir by 255 point victory. Main goal kickers were Gullaci and jacob Osei-Duro with 6, Whittingslow 5, Sam Osei-Duro, Horman, and Joseph Zakkour with 4 goals each. Good players were the whole team in a fairly even performance.
