With pre season well and truly behind us Round 1 on the netball and football season left us with some mixed emotions.
On Friday night the girls gave the club its first victory of the season with a 23 to 20 victory over Hurstbridge in the late game at RMIT. Leading for most of the night the firls were able to hold off their Hurstridge opponents. Thier next game is against Montmorency next Friday night the 16th April.
The Senior side ventured up to Diamond Creek for the first time in a few years looking to kick off season 2010 in good style. Both sides started off the contest in good style with hard running and hard tackling from the outset, Thomastown were accurate in front of goal and were leading until half way through the first quarter, scores at quarter time were Diamond Creek C 5.3 to Thomastown 4.0.
The second term saw Thomastown defence kept the Diamond Creek forwards under pressure to force them into some wayward shots on goal, while the midfield and forwards were making thew most of their opportunities. Thomastown added another 5 goals for the quarter to Diamond Creeks inaccurate 2.7, two late goals to Diamond Creek saw them cut the half time margin back to 2 points.
The third quarter looked as though the break did not help each side with ired players on both sides leading to both teams kicking 1.2 for the quarter and at three quarter time Thomastown maintined the 2 point margin. The last term saw both teams strive for the advantage and at the 10 minte mark Diamond Creek were able to break the shackles and kick three quick goals to break the game open. Thomastown were able to get one goal back but to no advantage as Diamond Creek were able to run out victors by 42 points. Final score being Diamond Creek 16.17.113 to Thomastown 11.5.71.
