Preliminary Final v North Heidelberg 2008
It was with nervous confidence that I anticipated a day at the footy watching the Preliminary Final between Monty and North. Mont’s record in finals was again in question after the debacle that was the Second Semi, and the North supporters knew it and were taunting the Monty faithful with the choking signs. Mont knew they had a good record against North in both the home and away and finals, so there was something calming in that knowledge as I took my place on the boundary and set up the camera.

Round 17 2008 v Eltham
The battle of the old foes continued as Eltham ventured to Para Rd, The Roarcon Stadium, for the last home game in 2008 for Montmorency. There was only winning the Ken Hines Shield and pride on the line as ladder positions couldn’t change in what was effectively a “dead rubber”. Never the less Eltham came to play as beating Mont would be as good to them as winning a final.

Round 10 2008 v Bundoora
Winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, the darkest day of the year, this description well and truly described what transpired at Roarcon Stadium today. With overnight rain and the renovations the mud and mess at newly dubbed “deconstruction stadium” was everywhere. The one shining light was the condition of the playing surface as the grassless ground held up well.

Round 7 2008 v Greensborough
Renovations are now well and truly underway at Mont. The pavilion is fenced off, there is limited power available to use and the only toilets available are in the public block at the back of the pavilion. The Canteen was set up outdoors under a marque and the bar didn’t fare much better, but all these difficulties faded into oblivion when compared to the mission to defeat arch enemy Greensborough

Round 6 2008 v Northcote Park
It was cold, dark and wet in a day in which the rain never relented for a moment as every spectator clambered for any piece of cover that could be found. Thank goodness we were not at Roarcon Stadium back at Mont where the fenced off clubrooms would have been a disaster in the conditions as cover is a scarce thing at the moment. To be playing at Northcote Park which has the best surface in the NFL and an under cover grand stand was a blessing for the small crowd that was brave enough to venture out in the harsh conditions.

Round 5 2008 v West Preston Lakeside
With black overcast skies, today’s game against West Preston Lakeside was played in some of the darkest conditions imaginable. By the time the senior side came out to play the conditions almost called for the lights to be turned on and the game finished with only minutes of daylight remaining. Despite this Monty waked away with the win and kept the march to the finals rolling on.

Round 4 2008 v Lalor
With the weather bureau forecasting a fine day and 19, the scene was set for a wonderful day of football at the Roarcon Stadium (Para Rd ground). The 19’s were fired up looking to win a third game in a row and we were all wondering if Matt Knight would continue his good form in front of goals. Unfortunately the Lalor club couldn’t field a team and the boys won on forfeit. The day wasn’t totally lost as the umpire stayed at the ground and umpired a scratch match between the boys which did give the small early morning crowd some laughs as the team mates were pitted against each other. Many thanks to the umpire from all of us Montmorency FC for being such a good sport in the circumstances.

Round 3 2008 v Diamond Creek
We played Diamond Creek today at the Hurstbridge ground due to the Creek oval being resurfaced. The Monty faithful packed their suitcases, checked they had enough money to purchase fuel for the return journey and travelled to a ground that is beautifully set in picture perfect surroundings and should be on a postcard or a postage stamp. The surface was wonderful to play on, at least Mont found it wonderful, as Diamond Creek must still be wondering what hit them as we steamrolled them in our first away clean sweep for the year.

Round 2 2008 v Heidelberg
Those of us that turned down Kevin Rudd's offer to be at his 20/20 love fest so we could come to the footy at Montmorency were the luckiest people in Australia. We were able to enjoy beautiful sunshine with a gentle breeze on a perfect day for football with friends and foes and share a wonderful game, while all the people at the Rudd Fest could come up with was a bionic eye to aide the in development of umpiring decisions. And they are the brightest in Australia?

Round 1 2008 V Bundoora
Whoo Hoo! Season 2008 has started and we have turned a question mark into a tick. Playing last years runners up was always going to be a big ask, especially when the opening round in the past few years has not been a happy one for Mont. Before the game the coaches would have been remembering the last time we ventured out to the bull pit, the 20 goal loss still hurts now. But today all that was forgotten as a new look Mont faced the demons of the past and vanquished them in style.

Practice Match Vs Balwyn
If last week against Lalor had us feeling ten feet tall and bullet proof, then this week against Balwyn, Division 1 EFL, was a reality check. This game had it all, sunshine, cold beer, hard hits, high marks and lots of great play resulting in a 27 goal game.

Practice Match Vs Lalor
In overcast conditions and playing on the smaller Monty Juniors / Lower Plenty ground we came up against the newly promoted Division 2 Premier of 2007 in Lalor Football Club. It has never been easy for a Division 2 club to win many games in their promotion season, and on the evidence of yesterday, the suggestion is Lalor needs to work very hard this year.

Practice Match Vs Shepparton Swans
It was hot.
In weather conditions far more conducive to a day at the beach, than slogging it out against last years Goulburn Valley runners up Shepparton Swans - it was with sweat bands, spare jocks and Gatorades that the boys jumped in their cars and headed down the dry and dusty Hume Highway.
The early game kicked off 11:30am - the boys looking eager to get into the first scrap of a new year. Well Hoffy did anyway.
