The day started ominously with their leviathan full forward and marking and goaling in the opening minute. We were able to restrict supply for most of the first quarter as it became obvious that the monolith would be problematic. Dighty goaled from long rand to get us back to a goal difference at the first break.
The hosts began to flex their muscle and started to pull away. The game opened up and the supply to their forward line became too much for our backline. Our defence was superbly led by Andrew Do and Matthew Ork. Todd Wills and Brad Dight were also solid contributors along with Ryan Oliver and Leighton Ross.
Lacey’s lads took a huge step towards finals action, hanging on in a nail biter. Having kicked the first three goals of the game, we decided we didn’t need to play accountable football and watched on as Chelsea Heights kicked the next nine goals. We trailed by as much as 39 points at one point before the digit was extracted.
An eight goal to two second half in favour of the good guys was enough to see us scrape home by 4 points.
Mitch Latimer, Cam McLeod and Craig Keenan were in great touch. Veterans Sareth Suon and Steve Aitken wound back the clock when it got tough, and the coach was dangerous with three majors.
