The second half of the season got underway as we tackled Heatherton for the second time this season. Having lowered our colours in round 1 we were determined to put our best foot forward.
The defences held sway in the first term. Louis Greco presented well and was rewarded with a shot a goal. It looked good from the minute it left the helipad and sailed through for the only major of the term.
We pinched a break in the second term when Pete Heng and Sam Blackburn goaled, before giving a goal right on the half time siren. After a dour first half we took a 7-point lead in to the main break.
The third term belonged to the good guys. As tempers frayed our discipline was excellent. The defence led by Bill Green, Andrew Do and Bora Ork conceded only one goal whilst goals to Sam Blackburn, Craig Keenan, Justin Lim and captain Matt Thompson left us with a handy break at the last change.
The Tunners didn’t have a heap left in the tank after that and we ran away with a comfortable 34 point in after a tight first half tussle.
Sam Blackburn (2 goals) and Lou Greco worked very hard up forward to present. Craig Keenan and Todd Wills had plenty of the ball along with David Monaghan. Glenn Rees was prominent in different roles and Brad Dight’s ability to compete as an undersized ruckman was superb.
The reserves also had a comfortable win, although it was tighter than it should have been. We were out to 8 goal lead at half time before the game began to mysteriously even up. We were able to hold on and, like the seniors record a thirty-four-point win.
Mitch Latimer finished with career best 6 goals in a best on ground performance. Coach Chris Lacey finished with three. Allan, Franga, Hao, Jas and Iceman were among the best.
