We were up and about early against Keysborough in the local derby. Sam Blackburn looked sharp in the first term after an extended lay off, slamming home two goals. We didn’t make the most of our opportunities and took a small lead at the first break.
The home side piled on the pressure in the second term and the defence worked hard to only concede three goals.
We wouldn’t lie down and fought back well in the third term before our undersized backline was overwhelmed by some of the Keysy marking targets. We lost Johnno with a knee injury and moments later Ryan Cunningham showed great courage and commitment and was felled in a marking contest.
We threw everything at the last term but much like the first term we didn’t get reward for effort. We had 5 more scoring shots in the last quarter but could only manage two goals. We were left to lament a couple of bad patches in the game.
Ben Stacey and Todd Wills continued their good seasons. Jayden Dart gave plenty in his second senior game and Pete Heng was again good.
The reserves had a terrific come from behind win, outlasting the hosts to claim a 12-point victory. Trailing by 21points at the last break, we slammed home 5 unanswered goals in the last term to claim the points.
Coach Chris Lacey was in everything, kicking 5 goals. Cam McLeod and Mitch Latimer were among the best. Great to see Aaron Henderson back and also among the better players. A special mention to Shermo Aitken, retuning after a three-year knee injury.
