We had the better of the start as we tacked Hampton at the toolbox. Early majors to Brad Dight. Danny Wilson and Justin Doust saw us in front of an inaccurate Hampton at the first break.
The second quarter saw us squander some chances of our own with some poor use going forward. Not for the first time, Hamptons coach would prove a major thorn, as he found his range kicking three goals for the quarter. It was left to David Ford who marked strongly to kick our only major for the quarter in time on.
We were slowly losing the arm wrestle and it was the third term where Hampton got on top, kicking four goals to our two. Their ball use on the small ground was superior and we found ourselves second to ball too often. A great snap from Gav gave us some life early in the final quarter, but it was to be a false hope as the Hammers ran out 30 point winners.
There were a lot of the usual suspects among the best including Ruckman Danny Wilson who is having a stellar season. Experienced hands in Gav, Dousty and Fordy got their hands dirty, whilst Ben Laier and Jackson Bolch were far from disgraced.
The story of the day came in the early game as our reserves stormed home to claim an unlikely victory. Trailing by 39 points at the last break, we piled on seven last quarter goals to claim victory by the narrowest of margins. Matt Pay was on fire kicking 5 goals, whilst Rob Johnston, Cam McLeod, Adam Norman and Daniel Caughey were among the best.
