It was the visitors that flew out of the blocks on Saturday, serving notice that they would be no pushover despite their ladder position. We made the most of our scoring opportunities in the first term with Clint Brooks posting two early. We welcomed back skipper Gav Vassallo who was enjoying not being tagged for once. Gav also had two majors at the first break.
Having established a nice lead maybe we thought that we would run away from that point. The second quarter proved to be a tight affair as we extended our lead by only two points. The Kangas let us off the hook with some bad kicking for goal and probably should have won the quarter.
They game broke open in the third term and it was the good guys who had more avenues to goal. We piled on 9 goals to 4 with Gav and Brooksy snaring three each for the term. The last quarter saw us completely run away with the match as the Kangas backline began to falter in the face of repeated entries into our forward 50.
Gav finished with seven goals, Brooksy six with Brad Dight (3) and Adam Norman on debut (2) chiming in. Tim Bacic had his best game for the club at senior level, whilst Danny Wilson, Aidan Jolly and Lance Baptist provided plenty of drive from the middle. The backline was well held together by Jackson Bolch Ben Laier and Brodie Snow. Congratulations also to Luke Dovaston who was a late call up to make his senior debut.
The reserves recorded a comfortable victory after a tight first quarter. With eight individual goal kicker we simply had more avenues to goals. Cam McLeod, Bard Wilson, Matt Pay and Dave Monaghan were among the best.
