We made our debut at the home of the Skye Bombers on Saturday. With four forced changes there was some trepidation as to how the new line up would click. Our fears were eased by quarter time as the lads jumped out of the blocks quickly and piled on 5 majors in the first term. Danny Atkin won every contest at full back and Duran Folino on debut was proving tough to get around at centre half back. This allowed some good supply for our forwards and Clint capitalised with three goals in the first stanza.

After the break the game was played on almost level terms. Our hosts started finding plenty in the middle and peppered the goals. We were let of the hook a little by Skye’s inaccuracy. To our credit, the forward made the most of limited chances for the quarter. Mark Charles goaled from a strong mark and Andrew Ferguson turned his opponent around for a clever goal. The bombers continued to attack for little result. Gav Vassallo goaled from a free kick after a great tackle, allowing us to take a 22 point lead to the final break.
Skye were finishing with aid of handy breeze so were we a long way from safe. Our defence held firm in the last quarter with Travis Faull, Dean Kovacic and Craig Keenan leading the way. Skye managed to get back to within 8 points before a few hard head stepped up to the plate. Kid again goaled from an impossible angle, Gav took a strong mark and converted, and when the coach drilled his fourth straight for the day, the points were headed to Newcomen Rd.

Whilst we have areas to improve on sometimes you just need to happy with the win. We finished the game without a bench on a warm day when fresh legs were vital.
The reserves were severely undermanned and suffered accordingly. The raft of injuries and unavailability’s has crippled us in the first couple of weeks, and we are looking forward to the Easter Break to get some troops back.
