Demons Done Doggy Style
Division one power St Pauls flexed some muscle at Newcomen Road on Saturday. A blistering 9 goal opening quarter sunk the demons in record time. The doggies’ midfield was well oiled and efficient. In short, we could not our hands on the ball. The second quarter started a little more brightly when Luke Woolrich registered our first major. We were able to stem the tide to a degree, but still found scoring difficult. Brendan Ashman was again among the best in the backline along with Darryn Young. Dean Kovacic made a welcome return from injury and will be better for the run. Luke Grabowski battled manfully in the ruck and up forwards whilst Matty Thompson was bright up forward. Congratulations to Travis Faull on making his senior debut at just 16, the youngest senior player to debut since Rob Burns in 1988.
The reserves also fell short. A tense opening term saw the scores locked at the first break. From that point on the visitors slowly wore us down, outscoring us 10 goals to three in the next 2 quarters. Evergreen Paul Riley slotted 6 majors in a good display up forward. Luke Wenke and Dion Sanza pressed their claims for a senior recall whilst a new look Liam McMahon and Ben Sommers were also among the best.
