Director of Coaching – Role Description
The position of Director of Coaching (DOC) has been established to assist, promote, administer and facilitate coach and football development for the Doncaster Heights Junior Football Club (DHJFC). The DOC reports to the Football Operations Manager. The role of the DOC is divided into two core areas – Administrative and Educative.
- 1. Administrative:
- To assist in the selection and appointment process for coaches including the development of selection criteria and interview questions
- To assist in the development of position descriptions for all age-group coaches
- To assist in the development of appropriate and relevant coaching policies including a Coaching Code of Conduct
- To develop a Club Coaching Handbook for distribution to and use by all team coaches
- To organise and conduct regular Coaches Forum meetings to provide support, education and evaluation for all team coaches
- To assist the Club and coaches with accreditation requirements
- To facilitate coach registration with appropriate coaching associations (e.g. Australian Football Coaches Association)
- To nominate suitable coaches for regional coach of the year awards\
- 2. Educative:
- To develop, promote and apply a sequential football development curriculum across all age groups at the club
- To evaluate coaching performance at training/match day using a variety of evaluation tools and strategies and provide appropriate feedback to all team coaches
- To act as a reference point for coaches to access research, resources and innovations in Australian Football and coaching in general
- To formulate and disseminate relevant coaching information (verbal, written and audio-visual) to all team coaches
- To enable coaches to establish networks within their peer group
- To coordinate, promote and deliver various football coaching courses to all team coaches
POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:
The Director of Coaching must be able to interact effectively with:
- The Football Operations Manager and Club Committee
- Coaches, players and parents at the club level
- Coaches and players involved in regional representative programs
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The Director of Coaching will exercise an appropriate level of independence and initiative, but will take direction and report to the Football Operations Manager.
