Proud founders and supporters of the Papunya Foundation.
Glen Iris Junior Football Club, more commonly know as the "Gladiators" was founded in 1987. We are a Melbourne based Junior Australian Rules Football Club and in 2017 Season we had over 580 registered players and fielded 26 teams including U10, U12, U13, U14/15 and U18 Girls sides.
This year we will continue to field Boys sides in every age group from U8 through to U15 as well as a Colts (U16/17 Boys) side.
We have with no senior football club affiliation.
We also run a Saturday morning Auskick centre, providing a pathway into the club for younger players.
We welcome both new and returning players and have teams playing in the Yarra Junior Football League - YJFL (www.yarrajfl.org.au) which comes under the control of Football Victoria.
Importantly we are an extension of Auskick, NOT an alternative to it. We accept both boys and girls 7 years old as at the 1st of January, with training typically on Friday nights in preparation for inter club games played on Sundays during winter.
Our indirect affiliation with Football Victoria allows our older players to be selected to participate in interleague games as well as possible consideration for selection in TAC development squads.
Our aim is to promote the game of Australian Rules Football and development of junior football. In doing so we hope to nurture and enhance the development and improvement of football skills and to promote attitudes of good sportsmanship, temperament, cooperation with others and character in children.
We encourage participation, regardless of ability by maximisation of enjoyment while placing winning in perspective and encourage respect for others including umpires, opponents, officials and fellow players. We strenuously oppose all forms of verbal, racial and physical abuse and to encourage best practice methods of coaching.
We achieve our aims through an environment that encourages family involvement. Our operation is only possible through the support of parents. Each team has a coach and Team Manager. Parents of our players primarily fill these positions. The Club’s Coaching Panel assists the Coaches.
Parents are rostered for match day duties, including runner, trainer, goal umpire, boundary umpire, time keeper, umpire’s escort and ground marshal. We operate canteen / BBQ facilities at our home grounds and again parents are rostered for this duty.
NEW PLAYERS WILL BE MADE MOST WELCOME
We play our home games at one of two venues:
