The idea of starting an Australian Rules competition in Toowoomba was first discussed by the Publican of the Royal Hotel and Bernie Stapleton. The end result was an ad was placed in the Toowoomba Chronicle asking for people to attend a meeting on the 4th of October 1970 to discuss the proposition. At that meeting on Sunday the 4th of October 1970 The Coolaroo Australian Football Club was formed and officials elected. The Club name of Coolaroo was adopted at a further meeting on the 11th of October 1970 after a suggestion by Jean Dellet utilising Carlton Colours and the Kangaroo as our emblem. The first Coolaroo committee consisted of:- President Bill Shaw, Vice President Bob Stewart. Secretary David Christian, Treasurer Colin Wells. Coach Adrian Jericho. Junior President Bob Stewart, Junior coach Colin Wells. Coolaroo’s first Training Ground was Norman Park, Toowoomba with the first muster held on the 7th Febuary 1971. The Club has since utilised Queens Park (Frogs Hollow) and Peachey St, Toowoomba as training grounds. Home grounds have been the Old Show Grounds on Bridge St (Now a Tafe College) from 1980 to 1984. Rockville Park at Tor St, Toowoomba from 1971 to 1979 and again from 1985 to 1997. Jack Martin Centre on the Gore Highway at Drayton from 1998 to 2000 and since 2001 Gold Park, Hume St, Toowoomba.
