Last Friday night saw the Hawks take on the Swanies in our last home game of the year. The boys were keen to play under lights and get the footy out of the way so they could really enjoy the rest of the weekend.
The resies boys took to field and looked a more determined side than what has run out the last couple of weeks. The fact that some of the guys were playing to hold their spot might have had something to do with that. In the first quarter the Hawks were simply irresistible, winning the ball out of the centre, moving it forward with skill and finding the right options inside 50. It counted on the scoreboard as well with the guys running into the first break with the score being 45 zip. The game was all but over but to the Hawks credit everyone looked like they wanted to run out the game and build towards the finals. BOG went to Coley and other good players were Kochie, Captain Watto, Jamie and Dan. To be honest, everyone played their part in this 132 to 7 win.
In the seniors game we were slow to get out of the blocks…… again!! We looked lazy and lacked intensity early on but worked into the game better as the match went on. After playing 5 ordinary quarters in a row, our boys seemed to find some desire to win the footy and some aggression in trying to do so. When the final siren blew we had a 12 goal advantage and something that we could build on going into this week’s game. Yatesy played his first game as captain and found some great form that has been eluding him over the last couple of weeks. BOG was Jay who provided a real spark up forward like only he can. He was aided by good games from Febes, Cheese, Yater and Zammie.
We will have to keep building and improving if we want to match it with the Tigers this week. I guess Hermit Park has a few things to say about favouritism for this year’s big prize after knocking off the Dogs, who just last week we thought were the team to beat. Our club is still quietly confident in our ability if we can keep working hard and hit our peak in a few weeks time.
Rumour has it that either Vossy or Triggy were looking at wedding packages at Paradise Palms over the weekend. With Vossy already having a thumb print on his forehead and a ring on his finger it only leaves one man. Watch this space for updates as they come to hand.
